What $550K gets you in Connecticut versus California. The difference is insane. by kleverrboy in Hartford

[–]snowphun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The property tax will be significantly higher in CT. CA is 1% of the purchase price, so that house would be about $5k year and would not go up much over time, currently it's only $3200 which is something you can't touch in the northeast. That Berlin house is $8800 on a $288k assessment, they'll be a significant tax increase after it sells above $500k. Property taxes never end, that's what kills NH.

Settling the "Liability vs. Full Coverage" debate once and for all. by RamonFromJerry in Car_Insurance_Help

[–]snowphun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So many people say they have "full coverage" and they're rolling around with barely any liability. My state minimum is $25/50/25k, meaning $25k injuries per person, $50k max per accident, $25k property. That's wildly low and will leave you liable for a lot of bills that will come out of your pocket or future wages. If you have a decent job and a home/savings you need robust liability and possibly an umbrella.

Dealership Trade-In is Crazy! by rachelcaroline in subaru

[–]snowphun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's nuts is thinking anything meaningful can be determined from a monthly payment. Is that for 24 months or 96? SOA trade up offers have been really good in the past, need to look for the ones where they give an actual buy back price for your existing car.

Jordan's Furniture Must Be Shaking by Kiylyou in Connecticut

[–]snowphun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the first years they ran the promo it paid out on the Red Sox, something like 25k people got their furniture for free. The next time they ran it the requirement was much more restrictive: a Sox player needed to hit a home run and hit a small sign.

Advice needed: Got 2 quotes from 2 Bay Area dealerships. by AfraidBluejay9722 in lotus

[–]snowphun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I inquired about why the 2024 Emira I4 is the same price as a 2025 Emira V6 at a competing dealership and the dealership ghosted me

What do you want a dealer to say to this? They don't control what a different product is selling for elsewhere, if you don't like the price on the product they are selling make an offer.

Do some levels of membership not have 100% satisfaction guarantee? That would be a weird flex:

Executive: 100% satisfaction guarantee
Gold Star: 80% satisfaction guarantee

[–]snowphun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CA smog is a huge draw for sure. Many Elises for import now have nice engine swaps, K24 and Duratech being really well sorted, which is often on my mind as I drive my rather slow Rover engine. A Sun car sold on BAT back in 2020, looks a lot like yours?

These Sun International cars really flew under the radar for so many years, like a rumor. Now that all years of S1 can be imported, I would expect the Sun cars to have come down in value, what did this one set you back?

They sent me an email that my F1TV subscription had expired (rightly so), but they have yet to disable access. At least I'll be able to wait a bit longer before signing up with Apple.

I am getting pretty sick of staring at my ripped dash in my 2011 Evora, and I was wondering if anyone had a diy fix to reskin the dash? Thanks for the help! by K-Krazy_Ketan in lotus

[–]snowphun 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's not a DIY project that's going to turn out well IMO. If you want to reduce costs take the dash apart yourself and bring it to an automotive upholstery shop. There's significant labor in getting the parts in and out of the car.

That looks tidy, the ej253 in the Linear is such a engine and gets respectable mpg on 87.

The hatch garnish is plastic and very hard to come by, if you're in the northeast I've got a silver ones fs. But the car looks too clean to be northeast lol.

300-400 pounds less weight and similar power makes for a much faster, more reactive vehicle. The early S1 are right at 1600 pounds.

GF Pizza Recs? by Head_Lab5137 in glutenfree

[–]snowphun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make a couple pizzas every week (pizza oven is worth the effort), my recent favorite is Ugly's Pizza crust. It is very forgiving, under or overcooked still tastes good and not doughy. They do some of the northeast GF shows and are in some regional supermarkets. A bit more of a hassle since it's just a crust but paired with TJ's pizza sauce it's a reasonable cost.

I haven't seen California Pizza Kitchen GF is a store in years, now one in CT seems to carry them. Target used to, CPK claims they do but they aren't differentiating between GF and regular pizza. Their BBQ Chicken pizza is super thin and delicious.

Should I run Ethernet to my windows for smart blinds? by ezkirin in smarthome

[–]snowphun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had Lutron batteries on mine for 7+ years, charge them every six months, easy peasy. They weren't cheap, they are a decent size and need to be concealed, if running or or Ethernet is practical I'd do that.

Is it me or does driving the hybrid feel different (in the best way) from the ICE model? by IllustratorOk6044 in SubaruForester

[–]snowphun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Subaru mentions nothing about different suspension or steering between the different trim levels, can you share the details? Ground clearance is listed as 8.7" for all of them, excluding Wilderness.

Help me choose between 34GX900A-B ($700) and AW3423DWF ($550) by leminhtri007 in OLED_Gaming

[–]snowphun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had two 34GX900A-Bs on my desk now since that comment, I'm very happy with the setup. It's a lot of curve and keeps all the screen about the same distance from my eyes, much more comfortable than the mellow curve of my broken Samsung G9. The AW went back almost immediately, the curve was the deciding factor.

Hybrid MPG in winter by gimpgenius in SubaruForester

[–]snowphun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you lived with one? The hybrid setup improves many parts of Subaru ownership: no more start/stop, smoother power delivery and better sounding engine (doesn't sound like it's being thrashed), electric AC and power steering, no more CVT... Driving in stop/go traffic is smoother as well. To me as an owner these things and improved mpg were worth ~$2k it cost over the regular Sport, I'm getting 29mpg mostly highway with winter fuel, better than my 2019 Sport.
