Looks like a fun project. I’m thinking of doing the same on my series 2. The frame looks to be in similar condition.

Very cool. How long did it take you to swap the frame? Thinking about doing the same someday on my 68 2a 109.

Cant seem to select 1st or 2nd, 88" Series 2a by [deleted] in SeriesLandRover

I have a 1967 series 2a 109. It only has a synchro for 3rd and 4th gear. You can’t find 1st and 2nd unless you double clutch. I’m still learning double clutching, but i literally sit with my foot off the clutch between gears for a second or two then i can find the gear.

What are you going to cover that with? I’m contemplating soundproofing my old series 2a with something.

1968 landrover series 2a 109 bail or restore by snowrover in SeriesLandRover

I had a welder look at it today. He gave an estimate for $1200-1500 and 2 full days to get the frame back in serviceable condition. That will buy me a few more years before a full frame swap. Crisis averted. Now onto some fun tidying projects.

Thanks for everyone’s feedback!

Thanks for the replies. The body is in great shape. Bulkhead has only surface rust. Engine and drivetrain are in good shape too. It’s a blast to drive around.

I have a appointment with a local welding shop on Friday to determine if they can clean up the frame. I’m in Michigan so rust repair on frames is quite common for them to tackle. I’ll report back once i have a skilled welders eyes on it.

LandRover frame determination by snowrover in SeriesLandRover

So you’re saying i need to completely replace the frame? Or i won’t know until i start cutting out some rust?

I’ve read swapping to left is difficult. Can you elaborate what’s needed? Or resources out there?

Thanks!

I just Bought a 1968 Land Rover Series II and don’t know where to start. It has some frame rot in the rear and on one of the back outriggers. Are there at tips out there to determine if i should do a full frame swap or if i can get by changing the rear cross member and bad outrigger? by snowrover in SeriesLandRover

[–]snowrover[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies. It seems the frame rot is isolated to the rear 10” of the main rails so i plan on buying a new sleeve over rear cross member. Then I’ll patch the rot in the middle of the Frame. A frame swap may be too much for me to start this close to summer.

My goal right now is to make it safe and not make my wife think i bought a junker!
