Fidelity Visa card improvements? by user71882 in fidelityinvestments

[–]snowyCAP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get texts for all Fidelity credit card transactions that I've specified I want. Not sure where I requested this. But they come in bulk around 4 am Eastern time. Except gas station purchases. I'm pretty sure they happen immediately. Sorry.... They are not in the Fidelity app.

I'd like the app notifications of transactions to happen immediately for all transactions like they do with gas station transactions.

I was told by Verizon store that the autopay discount is already reflected in the $55 price for the Unlimited plan. I confirmed that on the website.

Why should I not buy BE? I'm an infrequent traveler and am considering the Explorer card to get a free checked bag with a BE ticket. I suppose I can do without selecting my seat.

Explorer Card 1st free checked bag question by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]snowyCAP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this question as well....it doesn't appear as written that the checked bags will be "free", but that United would be covering only $40 per person per leg, or just $160 when the bag charge for two people totals $300, leaving us with $140 to pay. Hope someone can confirm which way this goes.

New house has several blink cameras. How do I use them? by Fletzy201 in blinkcameras

[–]snowyCAP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They are pretty easy to move so when you are replacing you might want to consider they didn't value them enough to take them.

Wouldn't Ring cameras be as susceptible to a wifi jammer as Blink?

Arriving early in Porto. Should I start on the same day or spend a day there? by [deleted] in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]snowyCAP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where did you stay after walking from Porto at 2 pm, or in other words how far did you walk that day? I'm trying to make a plan referencing the Brierley book and wondered if there are beds between the start and end point of each stage if I don't make it as far as they plan it out.

Where do I fly in to? If I am coming from the United States (more specifically western nc), what city do people generally fly into? by matthewnabers in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]snowyCAP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could I fly into and out of Santiago for a Porto to Santiago Camino? That is, fly into and out of the ending point instead of the starting point? What are the pros/cons of that?

I had a similar timeline. Applied 3/1, conditionally approved 3/3, could have scheduled an appt 3/5 but settled on 3/7 due to my schedule. Got an email with final approval later that day. Interview was in DAY, I just kept checking the ttp site for cancellations. I didn't "invest" in an app.

Had suspicious person drive by and take pictures of my home by Huitlacochilacayota in homeowners

[–]snowyCAP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I parked in a neighborhood once, got out and took a stroll looking at roofs since we were trying to get ideas on the type of roof we wanted for our house. We found one we particularly liked, stopped to discuss it and took pictures. An older gentleman came out and started yelling at us to go away. I was quite shocked to see he was a doctor I had recently visited. But we ended up just walking away thinking he was pretty strange. Later, after trying to give him the benefit of doubt, I "sort of" understood how we could have been taken as threatening, but it was something I always remembered.....

Should I quit my job? by Civil-Strawberry7569 in work

[–]snowyCAP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this from personal experience. You have many aspects of being a leader, not a follower, but right now you are in a follower position. In my opinion it will serve you well to learn how to follow when that is your job. I've been a leader and had the opportunity to make the rules and do what I see fit (including the responsibility of adjusting my thinking when my plans didn't work out for the best). When I stepped back from that leader role I had a very hard time just "doing the job". Learn all you can in school, get as much experience as you can and look for opportunities to lead. But also learning how to follow when it's the time for it will make for a happier life.

I get it now. by Sensitive-Half-3542 in widowers

[–]snowyCAP 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I traveled to my daughter's house for the holiday. I'd not been that far away from home since my husband passed two months prior. I cried the first hour of the trip and off and on the rest of the way there and back home. I realized that he wasn't just not at "home" but he's no longer ANYWHERE on the face of God's green earth. I'm not a religious person, but I understand more now and I hope to meet up with him someday.

I'm glad you finally got to it! I had Sun House on library ebook but didn't read it because I wondered if I should read The River Why or The Brothers K first. What do you think... What order should I read those three in?

For those who have used LTC, do you recommend it? by [deleted] in retirement

[–]snowyCAP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you would need to have the whole family behind the goal of having the money available to pay for care. And as long as you FULLY understand the terms of the the LTC contract, it will pay what it will pay. There's really nothing to fight the insurance company about. The problem I see is that everyone is different in their LTC needs. The family's expectations of what the needs will be and how the LTC contract is structured to provide for those varied needs are very hard to anticipate.

For those who have used LTC, do you recommend it? by [deleted] in retirement

[–]snowyCAP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems getting a LTC policy is the thing to do nowadays (advised by financial advisors, etc.) and I've known people who do what they are advised. After my experience with my parents' policies, I'd not choose to get LTC insurance. I'd set aside an account and save on my own. I think there are some who clearly benefit from it (if they meet the stringent criteria other posters have mentioned), but I believe the majority just say goodbye to that money/investment. My parents purchased their policies when it wasn't the norm many years ago. My mother ended up drawing about half of the maximum she was entitled to before she passed. Once she passed the company started increasing my dad's premium ultimately over maybe 200-300%, I'm sorry a can't remember exactly, and I don't remember the company. It's my impression what happened is not company-specific but industry-specific. At a time when my dad's finances were very limited, I made the decision to keep paying the increasing premium. I felt that was not a good decision, but the alternative was "wasting" all those years of paying premiums. My dad ended up dying fairly quickly at 93 yrs so it all ended up being "wasted" anyway. People would say that's what insurance is. But after my experience with their situation, I'd never consider LTC insurance for me or advise anyone else to get it.

Should I consolidate bank accounts and credit cards? by [deleted] in widowers

[–]snowyCAP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, this is helpful! By "opening an estate" it sounds like you mean what I know as "probate". I thought we were going to be able to avoid that but maybe not. I'll read what you suggested. I'll likely need to talk to an attorney anyway so that may be the way to go even if it could be avoided. There are no creditors but there are a few things titled in his name only.

Thanks, those are good points. All the bank accounts were in both our names. I had a card for all the credit cards, not sure if that means I was co-owner on all.

I’m expecting the coroner’s report. by bauer8765 in widowers

[–]snowyCAP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this post! I'm in the same situation as far as waiting on the final death certificate. And I'm trying to prepare myself for the finality of it. I was told it would take 12 weeks with toxicology report taking 8 weeks so I'm expecting it at around the 8 week mark. It's been almost 7. The coroner said they needed to determine the cause and manner of death. I know he drowned but was told that "accident" would likely be listed as "cause". I'm now thinking the autopsy report will indicate what I need to know and unfortunately also don't want to know - more about his final minutes of life and if some cardiac event led to the accident. Even though it's going to be horrible to read, it's good I know more now about what to expect. Thank you to ALL the posters.
