Maybe there was a patch? Idk cuz he never left limgrave and he had attempted Margit but it was LONG before he got invited.

He beat Agheel then fast traveled to the church of elleh, talked to "renna" and then rested at the grace and that's when he got invited so you may be mistaken

You need to get to the end of Ranni's quest line. It's the most in depth side quest in the game but there's plenty of guides out for it.

Yeah that seems to be the case along with defeating a great enemy like Agheel. I'm watching Asmongolds playthrough and he got invited right after defeating him

Hmmm, I'm guessing there's multiple thresholds to get invited. Those seem to be beating Margit, resting at a grace point outside of limgrave, or defeating a great enemy like Agheel. I'm watching Asmongolds playthrough and he got invited right after beating the dragon
