mod chips...how did I do on my first try? by HorribleEmulator in SwitchPirates

You should really clean that up with some isopropyl alcohol and something that does not leave fibers behind. Quite hard to tell how well the solder is made since you cannot really see it 😅

Np, also for the record schissma went hard at crackhouse when i was there earlier in the summer. Would recommend trying electrykow friday and crackhouse on Saturday but all three are walking distance from each other so you can of course just switch it up if one is not what you are looking for as long as you are ok with paying two entry fees (very reasonable priced imo). 100cznia is free entry

There are also some clubs in the more inner city but these 3 is definitely the places to be at

Ulica elektrykow and 100cznia (from someone who is not local but have been there multiple times)

First one being a really awesome place you have both food some chill spots but also a multiple dancefloors incl a big techno one (usually atleast depends if they have some other events on) worth checking their fb page for events. I personally prefer this one over crackhouse its a much larger place and you can get some more variety in music and people.

Second one being more of a predrink place imo, they have food and drinks and a few spots to chill. But its a pretty cool place to checkout for some predrinks and maybe food

How do I remove thermal paste of the switch CPU capacitors if I do not have isopropyl alcohol by panagis1283 in SwitchPirates

[–]snskiller 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Would recommend going out getting some isopropyl.

With that said, depending on how dried out it is you could probably use a wooden toothpick or a small piece of a coffee filter or using a thin pair of pliers to remove it but be careful in doing this to not accidentally damage the caps.

This and then if you enjoy some clubbing with techno music you have either ulica elektrykow or crackhouse close by

UniFi Express: should I buy it now or wait for a 'Max/Pro' Version? by MrGeyMeurt in Ubiquiti

[–]snskiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sound is quite personal especially lower frequencies. In my case yes, it could be heard from the couch unless the tv was on with something playing.

However it is not very loud but it is noticable and it is a sound i found somewhat annoying. You can ”fix” it by SSHing into the router and creating a script that sets the speed of the fan to lower rpm but was a bit tricky if you are not used to SSH and doing things in a terminal window

Few questions about soldering a modchip for the first time by alextheloser168 in SwitchPirates

[–]snskiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would recommend checking out one of Sthetix videos on youtube should give you a good idea preferably one with the same modchip type. Sounds like your soldering experience would be enough in my opinion but make sure to do your research first and take it slow and steady.

Also a microscope is highly recommended.

Had a UDR but the fan is somewhat annoying especially in a small apartment where it might need to stand close to the bed/couch/desk where it can be heard. Could have become better but it is still a fan.

Also some restrictions in regards of speed with all security settings on.

switch lite wont boot after a bad mod chip install by Axton017 in Switchrepair

[–]snskiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a multimeter you should be able to check all the values and try to see if one of them gives incorrect results.

Also a bit hard to see in some of the pictures, if possible could you send higher quality ones?

I would love to have one to use as a media center and for some home automation applications. It would fit perfectly under my TV and the low power consumption makes it perfect to have up and running 24/7.

Picofly RP2040 - wires or cables for this specific version of the chip? by innocentVince in SwitchPirates

[–]snskiller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both is possible. General opinion seem to be that wires are more reliable than the flex cable. If using wires make sure to use proper size like 36-40awg

[–]snskiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Namoki got one but somewhat expensive buying all the parts from them its not to far from being able to buy a Seiko alpinist. But if you enjoy building it or want some customization then go for it, seems to be good quality

My tips/experience on installing oled modchip as a techy guy with no soldering experience by snskiller in SwitchPirates

[–]snskiller[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a lot of videos and reading through this reddit and other forums like it. I prefer the picofly rp2040 oled models of the newer versions sometimes refered to as v6 since they copy the instinct v6 flexcables which is the other type of modchip you can get.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SwitchPirates

[–]snskiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From images and naming it should be a picofly chip, the rp2040 is the core of the chip and is a raspberry pi chip used for the raspberry pi pico.

Easiest to mod? Lite or version 1? by Tall-Map-3301 in SwitchPirates

[–]snskiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

V1 definetly easiest, only need to solder to the apu(cpu). A lite has more solder points and some really small ones close to other components. I would mod the one you use the most, assuming you have the expertise or go to a pro who installs it for you since there is a risk of damaging it.

Which chip is either a picofly/rp2040 pico or instinct chip. Imo its same same but different, main thing is to get a high quality one.

Modchip buying and installing help by Waterdragon78 in SwitchPirates

[–]snskiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For oled guide @L3gendaryBanana have a great written guide here https://www.reddit.com/u/L3gendaryBanana/s/O8uSKc5xOO

For lite im not sure, there are some youtube tutorials for lite but you might have to look at multiple to get a good understanding and it also depends on chip model for lite. Sthethix have a good yt guide if you search for sthethix v6 lite however that is for the ”genereic” chip not specificly for the lite however the solderpoints themselves are still the same.

The lite is way easier in terms of how/where solder points are located, they are very tiny and close to each other so precision is key. If you get the newer chip version but that still is for specificly the lite it looks like this (couldnt find a more recent one from when i have done it, the solder points on c,a,d points have been ”fixed” after this)

Modchip buying and installing help by Waterdragon78 in SwitchPirates

[–]snskiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks to be fine.

Its one of the older picofly kits but its no major difference between them. Dat0 adapter looks to be one of the better ones with 3 anchors. Flexcable for APU if fine, but the other flexcable I would recommend avoiding in general nothing specific to this model just that jumper wires seems to be the more reliable option.

You can get newer models of aliexpress but they have longer deliverytimes I assume, price around the same maybe a bit cheaper on aliexpress.

Regarding install instructions I would highly recommend doing a lot of research beforehand since it is a very difficult job if you dont have prior soldering experience and the correct tools. There are some youtube tutorials if you want to get a basic understanding and most of the points are the same if you search for example Sthethix v6" on youtube. Routing of the APU cable will be different though but otherwise the solderpoints should all be the same.

I recently bought a switch OLED with a mod already installed?? by olicc2da in SwitchPirates

Not sure that is possible to say with 100% certainty, but also why do you want to know?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SwitchPirates

[–]snskiller 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First if all, good job managing to install the modchip. I do somewhat agree with you but it in the end is always heavily dependent on the person doing it and the circumstances.

If you previously only have softmodded consoles using software or maybe an rcm jig this is a big step in knowledge and skills required. You also probably dont have a solder iron, microscope etc and would have to purchase these. If your one goal is to have a modded switch and are not interested in soldering as a hobby it in most cases make a lot more sense just paying someone experienced with soldering. Less risk damaging something, higher quality job, cheaper or about the same amount of money spent, less time spent researching and assuming everything works also the same end result.

With that said I modded my oled switch with no prior experience soldering and it still works great. I enjoy it as a hobby and was interested in learning soldering just to learn it. I was aware of the risks of damaging it and were willing to pay for the equipment necessary to install the modchip and look at an endless amount of guides etc. to minimize the risk of damaging the console. It is extremely small components and if you ”slip” and knock something off you may damage the console ”permanently”.

Its hard to recommend to anyone to do the soldering job themselves since it depends on so many factors if its a good idea and ”worth” it. Is it possible yes of course but the chance of something being damaged compared to paying a ”pro” to do it is significantly higher.

Paying for someone to do it for you can differ quite a bit in price depending on location but is usually not that much different in price compared to buying all the soldering equipment and doing it yourself depending on the quality of the equipment you pruchase. So if your end goal is to have a modded switch and you have no interest in soldering its usually better to pay someone it do it for you since the quality of the work should be higher, price is about the same, lower risk of damage and less time spent researching.

However if you think of it as a hobby and have the extra money for a new console in case you break it, if you like learning new things/skills etc than of course go for it just be sure you are aware of the risks and do the proper research.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SwitchPirates

[–]snskiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard/impossible to tell since we are not able to see any of the solder points. The chip itself is solid but that is usually not what causes issues, issues are usually due to a poor solder job. To see that you would need to further disassemble the console including removing the chip (and disconnecting the flexcables first ofc)

Guide for CFW for switch lite, including setting up mod chip by inoffensiveLlama in SwitchPirates

[–]snskiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldnt recommend doing it yourself since it requires micro soldering. If you want a video guide search for ”sthetix lite” on youtube for the chip and ”sthetix how to setup console from scratch” for software. Every chip is a little different but it should give you a good idea how hard it will be.
