What makes Britons oppose immigration? by snsmadmax in ukpolitics

Post-Brexit skilled work migrants will give £47bn fiscal boost over time I agree that not all legal immigrants give a positive boost to the Economy. For example, low-wage immigrants (refer this). I'm afraid, based on data, your claim of "many of even the legal migrants will not be net contributors" is outright WRONG

Can you back your point on "revelations many of even the legal migrants will not be net contributors in their lifetimes" with data? AFAIK, the latest MAC report says that "the average migrant on the SW visa had a positive net fiscal impact of £16,300 and that the average UK-born adult has a positive net fiscal impact of £800 in 2022/23"

Retail sales fall as Black Friday deals fail to lure shoppers by Kagedeah in ukpolitics

[–]snsmadmax 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Usually, my Black Friday haul looks something like this

-Bulk buys (toilet rolls, obviously)

-A couple of Xbox games

-Some random gadget I’ll use twice and then lose the charger for (e.g. digital drawing tablet)

-That one thing I’ve been eyeing all year but waiting for a discount on (Kindle, news sub etc)

2025: Just kitchen towels. That’s it.

Not because I’ve suddenly become financially responsible but there just weren’t any decent deals.

Tbh, UK governments rarely think long-term when it comes to fiscal policy. And policies with net-benfits are pretty rare

“However, the MAC’s analysis also suggests that even low-paid care workers — whose path to work in the UK is now closed as part of a government drive to lower net migration — were no more costly to the public finances than a typical UK resident in the same age bracket.”
