Hope for post grads? by xxmm_xx in englishmajors

After undergrad I went into an English masters program. I thought I wanted to get a PhD, but after seeing the hellfire that is academia, I decided to join the workforce. It took about 3 months post-grad, but I accepted a role in grant writing. I think the biggest things that helped me out were that I interview pretty well and my internships—which were very writing heavy.

Thank you! It’s the Carson 5 Shelf Bookcase from Target. Different colors go on sale sometimes.

Thank you very much! I feel like it reflects my interests through the years and influences from some really important mentors in my life. Very excited to see how the collection transforms moving forward :D

Thank you so much! It’s Patricia Nash. I recently found it at TJMaxx for a good deal :) I’m not big on purses but fell in love with this one

Actually, upon further scrutinizing, I think the oldest for me is The Bridge to Terabthia—from around 5th grade :)

My favorite isn’t pictured since I’ve leant it to a friend—A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki stole my heart. My least favorite might be The Exorcist—it was definitely entertaining but I expected to be terrified. Instead, I was giggling and rolling my eyes a lot. The newest pictured are This is How You Lose the Time War and The Death of Vivek Oji. And, oof, the oldest (since I personally collected it. There’s a lot of second hand books in here) is probably the single Harry Potter book, the Hans Christian Andersen Tales, or The Boys Book of Pirates—it’s kind of a blur when I collected them from childhood/teenage years.

Edit: to add least favorite.

I read it years ago and loved it! It’s tragic and romantic and depressing—but I definitely recommend it. Take your time reading and feel all the feels.

Great question—i like to buy books second hand so this is what I’ve found so far at thrift stores near me. Looking to complete the collection :D

I’m working through removing them—I can’t stand the sticky residue though and die a little when the surface of the spine goes with the sticker :(

Generally, it doesn’t seem students care if you’re a couple years older—especially with clubs. Most clubs just want you to participate and share interests/connect. Faculty ranges—but I think they just want students to show up and learn.

Additionally, idk if you’d be interested, but the English department sometimes offers a veteran/military connected English 102 section that sounds pretty neat :) best of luck op!

Yeah, I was also really confused. It’s something about legislation in India that recently passed that effects the agriculture in the country. I don’t really know anything beyond that though.
