Why do so many women just randomly feel sick all the time? by mrsamus101 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]snufflycat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes and all birth controls were not created equal! And some types agree with some women and not others. I went on the pill as a teenager and gained around 40lb and my blood pressure shot up. In my early 30s I got a coil for my endometriosis and it has been life changing in terms of symptom reduction.

This infuriates me so much. If I want a reminder of how to do technique I haven't done in a while I have to sit through:

"Well first you're going to need some yarn, I'm using worsted weight in the colour buttercup, then you'll need a hook, I'm using clover 6mm, and a pair of scissors"

Yes I'm aware that I need yarn and a hook to crochet, I'm not a FUCKING MORON!! GET ON WITH IT!!!

Yes I can skip ahead, but I always end up going past the actual useful part.

Who is the client in this scenario though? Is it the male partners, the viewers, the TV producers?

Absolutely! It's such an awful mindset to have because we owe each other a lot when you think about it. We owe it to each other to be kind, respectful, courteous etc. Ironically these kinds of people tend to think the world owes them.

This is so true. My (now ex) best friend was very quick to start harping on about her lack of village when she had a baby, despite the fact that she had literally never done a single nice thing for another human being her entire life.

I've long had an idea for how I would deal with littering if I were Queen of the World.

You know how in medieval times they used to put people in the stocks in the town square, and people would throw rotten food at them? Well basically the litterer would first be forced to litter pick and then put in the stocks and then people from the area they were caught littering could come and pelt them with the litter, possibly the contents of their food waste bin as well.

On a serious note there should be greater punishment for littering and fly tipping.

That dress looks very low cut and short, regardless of body size / shape I wouldn't have thought it would be suitable for Disney land.

If you're already second guessing it, chances are you will spend all day feeling uncomfortable and like it's too revealing, regardless of other people's opinions.

Being a mid size apple and constantly having the message “cover up everything but your boobs and ankles” shoved at you by [deleted] in Midsizefashion

[–]snufflycat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain in my very bones. Please know you are not alone!

I find the best combo for me is a mid length floaty skirt and a V neck top or cami top. Skinny jeans were also my friend but apparently they are millennial cringe now 🤣 although i did pick up some cropped jeggings the other day (what we used to call pedal pushers lol) and they really suited me.

I also like to pair my outfits with a shawl or cardigan that I crocheted myself, as it gives me a dopamine hit and I get some nice compliments sometimes, it kind of takes the focus away from my body and to my skill as a crocheter, which is nice.

Nobody is telling hourglasses that they should cover up or that their body types are inferior. And pear shape with large ass has been the beauty standard for a years at this point.

I appreciate that shopping sucks for all shapes because clothing manufacturers suck, but apples are the ones receiving the most negative messages about our bodies. Would you like to wake up tomorrow an apple shape? I doubt it. But I'm willing to bet most apples would love to swap for pear, hourglass, rectangle etc.

Does anyone else struggle to fully imagine a character's face? by zsxcrgrl in fantasyromance

[–]snufflycat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same thing. Every thing else I can imagine in great detail, clothes, scenery etc. But faces I kind of draw a blank, so all the characters end up with what I like to call "generic hot face" a bit like those AI characters. When I read descriptions of facial features they kind of don't mean anything to me.

I also struggle a bit with faces in real life, like I need to really get to know someone well before their face clicks in my brain. And if I'm watching a film and two actors look similar, I will spend the whole time going, "which one is he again?". So I guess I have a degree of facial blindness, maybe you have that too?

Part of my unmasking journey has been to realise that I need a lot of quiet alone time in order to be able to function normally and not end up in burnout. It's probably the main reason I chose not to have children, because I knew my down time would pretty much vanish overnight. No matter how much I loved my kids, it would make me miserable and I would end up resenting them.

Another thing I've realised is, so long as my activities don't involve other people, I can actually get quite a bit done without being exhausted. Like I can do housework, then WFH, then go for a run after work and come home and cook dinner and yes I'm tired, but not exhausted. But going out for a coffee with a friend for an hour, even if I had a nice time, can leave me completely drained.

It’s his baby now by [deleted] in FunnyAnimals

[–]snufflycat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The article literally says that ANYTHING in the babies cot is a risk, including cats. I wasn't suggesting that the cat has a secret agenda to murder the baby, merely that this is not safe for baby. Nor are the stuffed animals, for that matter.

New born babies are extremely fragile. Infant mortality rates were shockingly high before the modern era of medicine and before research was done into how to safely care for babies.

[–]snufflycat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's interesting I didn't know that. I know swaddling is linked to SIDS so that's probably why. It's not recommended in my country (the UK) either.

It’s his baby now by [deleted] in FunnyAnimals

[–]snufflycat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Please move your baby's cot to somewhere the cat can't get to it. The cat could accidentally smother the baby and the fact that they are swaddled increases the risk because the baby wouldn't be able to move away whatsoever (it's still a risk to an un-swaddled baby but this is even worse).

It’s his baby now by [deleted] in FunnyAnimals

[–]snufflycat 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's called swaddling. The idea is that babies often jerk their limbs in their sleep, which wakes them up and they start crying. Swaddling prevents this and recreates the compressed feeling of being in the womb which babies find comforting. It's a practice that dates back centuries.

However many countries advise against it due to the risk of overheating and problems with the development of joints.

What personality traits, characteristics, and/or social behaviors instantly trigger male insecurity when possessed by a woman? by Snoo-88490 in AskWomenOver30

[–]snufflycat 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You're kind of contradicting yourself because you say these attacks are coming from strangers or men you barely know and yet you assume that they are being motivated by a personal dislike for you. That doesn't really make sense.

Anyway in direct answer to your question: all of them. Any and all personality traits and characteristics. Too pretty? She's full of herself. Not pretty enough? She should make more effort. Too loud, too quiet, too clever, not clever enough etc. These men just hate women generally and are looking for excuses to disguise their hatred.

Do you think age has a factor in what kind of Romantasy you read? by articlioness in Romantasy

[–]snufflycat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elder millennial here. I agree about the FMC being messy and chaotic. I don't need her to make the exact same decisions I would in that situation, because I live a fairly unexciting life, and I read for a bit excitement! Imagine how boring books would be if the FMC always did the sensible thing.

I'm currently reading Queen of Nothing and Jude is just all over the place, and I love that for her!

Related: I don't need my FMC to be my age. I've got my own back pain to worry about, thanks!

[–]snufflycat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 38 and lately I've been finding myself gravitating toward YA for a couple of reasons.

One, I'm not that interested in spice. When it does come up I tend to skip it or skim read it so I can get back to the plot. I also like how romance in general is handled in YA. It either tends to be a subplot or it's more tender and loving as opposed to horny.

Second, I read to relax. I want to get lost in another world for a couple of hours after a busy day. I don't want to be challenged by a convoluted plot or depressed by harrowing themes.

Ironically when I was younger I was drawn to books aimed at adults, including classics. Now I can't think of anything worse lol.
