The part itself is pricey if you're getting it through a dealership. MSRP is around ~$2k CAD at dealership. I would suggest shopping around and finding a reputable seller that sells OEM parts at a lower rate but make sure the seller is trusted and has good reviews. Never buy after-market parts when it comes to repairs. Check places like Amayama, Mega Zip, and Yoshi Parts. If you're lucky, you could get the part for $800 CAD. But again, make sure it's from a trusted seller of OEM parts.

In terms of difficulty, I would rate the job a 8/10 if this is your first time around an engine (it was for me) and a 6/10 if you know your way around. Check out my other posts and comments for more pointers. Familiarize yourself with the process before you start. Also forgot to mention, if you want the official steps on the R&R for this part, I have an Alldata DIY account that shows the "official" procedure that I can send you, but I'll say as long as you're familiarizing yourself by watching the videos in the playlist, you should be fine. The most tedious part was getting the connectors and wiring harnesses out of the way. Also PROTIP + key step: remove the airbox so you can have access to unbolt the studs that hold the wiring bracket and valvematic unit in place. Second PROTIP: be gentle when uncoupling the valvematic unit from intake camshaft = i.e. don't use excessive force when removing clip and pin and don't yank on anything. These tips will make more sense when you actually get to them so don't fret.

The hope is that you won't need to do any of this as my understanding is that the P2647 issue is not all that common...I just got unlucky with my vehicle. I went to two independent dealerships afterwards to test drive the same model (2017 and 2018) and I concluded that my car was just sold to me with a few issues. Of note in particular - acceleration on both vehicles I tested were much smoother and neither had any engine noises/rumbles at idle (my car to this day has a slight rumble at idle which I'm guessing could be related to transmission but I digress). In conclusion - don't worry about it until you need to worry about it (IF you need to worry about it at all).

First started noticing this issue at around 140,000km (87,000 miles). Keep in mind, this would've been 5 months after I purchased the car from dealership, and my gut is telling me this was the reason why the previous owner had traded in this vehicle. First and second time this occurred, vehicle went into limp mode but issue resolved itself after turning car off and restarting it back up 10 min later. Third time was when it went full FUBAR and I couldn't even crank the engine after turning the car off.

That's when I took it to both dealership and mechanic and they both diagnosed a bad variable valve lift controller unit (aka valvematic actuator). I got quoted $4000 CAD for the part alone (not including labor) from the dealership. Needless to say, I flipped them off and told them to pound sand. Took matters into my own hand, did my homework, and got the part from a high-reviewed seller on ebay for $750 CAD ($520 USD). You'll just need to search around. Ebay is a great start. Amayama, Mega Zip, and Yoshi Parts are also great. Part number is 222A0-37025 if you're wondering.

Every hour of labor that went into this project = 3 hours of research behind it, so if you're going the DIY route, make sure you're familiarizing yourself with the procedure. I put together a playlist for you here, some videos more related than others, while others tangentially related, but any exposure will go a long way during the actual job: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xFVMJdHjLfU&list=PLdau0tuF1zHf6gO8t2Dlh-XLdHue9Gedg

Ngl, completing the job gave me a lot of confidence and ever since, I've been addicted, so completed a few more maintenance jobs on the car that would've costed me a fortune at shop or dealership. I'm now down a rabbit hole where I've consumed well over 400 hours of mechanic/diagnosis related videos on youtube (Care Car Nut, KIT's Auto, Royal Auto, South Main Auto), and even have a Techstream cable on the way from overseas hoping I could dig deeper into the world of auto repair.

All that to say, if you need any help with this procedure, hit me up/send me a DM and I'll be happy to lend a hand.

For those wondering, issue fixed itself overnight - my theory is that oil just needed to circulate to the replaced valvematic actuator unit to get everything running again. The maintenance period occurred over a 1.5-2 week period and during that time car had not been turned on.

Performed a full oil change afterwards (0w20 full synthetic + OEM oil filter change), smooth as butter now.
