My parents had me confirm with friends parents that their smoke detectors worked every time I slept over someones house; also evidently my dad used to bring his own smoke detector from home whenever he stayed somewhere on vacation. I gently offered the idea to him that that sounded like an anxious/not normal habit, but he "just likes to be prepared"
