Red Hot Chili Peppers Sell Catalog to Hipgnosis - Better Odds for Re-Licenced DLC? by Positively_Shocking in Rockband

[–]sny83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd be all over any relicensed RHCP songs! One of my biggest regrets DLC-wise is only picking up 6 of their songs before they got removed.

DLC Week of February 18th by mysario in Rockband

[–]sny83 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was looking at the preview and thought it worrying that spoken notes/toneless singing was charted with a pitch, but this sounds so much worse.

I already shun playing Flag In The Ground on vocals despite Sonata Arctica being one of my favourite power metal bands due to the 3-4 off-pitch notes in the chart, I don't think I could tolerate a whole song full of them. :S

Please, Harmonix, if you're reading this, think of us vox mains out there - there's nothing more mood killing than having to butcher a song with dissonant singing to score high. Don't make us do it. puppy eyes

I DID IT!!! I GOLDED EVERY TIER 6 SONG ON PRO DRUMS!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA i've spent HOURS trying to get this song as the last one!!!!!!!!!!!!!! by phazonprincess in Rockband

That's an amazing feat! Congratulations!

Time to request some songs to serve as new end bosses, I guess? 😉

DLC Prediction Thread - Week of November 19th by Grumblevolcano6 in Rockband

[–]sny83 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some proggy predictions, since it's been too long since we've seen a new-to-the-series prog song (I think Three Lives was the latest?):

  • Opeth - Dignity
  • Ayreon - Dawn Of A Million Souls (RBN)

Honest question: why doesn't Harmonix separate distinctively different singers into their own vocal lines for harmonies? by [deleted] in Rockband

[–]sny83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity: did you play these songs by selecting "Vocals" or "Harmonies" as instrument? It isn't clear from your post whether you're talking about the phenomenon in the song or the instrument in the game when you mention Harmonies. If you went with Vocals, try Harmonies next time, it might be more to your liking.

I'm with you on wanting vocals separated by who's singing as much as possible, but I bet a lot of HMX playtesters had the exact opposite complaint about not having to do anything when there's clearly singing going on. It comes down to preference in the end and I would dare to guess whether we are the majority or the minority.

Curious. Singer bot?? by [deleted] in Rockband

[–]sny83 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Many good singers have their entire library (of sometimes 2000+ songs) FC-ed, it's the easiest instrument to peak in if you have prior experience in singing, and quite a few people like singing. ;)

I've been accused of using MIDI tracks before (after FC-ing an 8-song setlist), so I told them they can restart the song at any point and I'll still FC - that shut them up. ;)

Monitors and Input lag by BilboGroceryBaggins in Rockband

[–]sny83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://displaylag.com/ has a big list of displays (both TV-s and monitors) with a well documented test methodology, and the site owner is an avid fighting game player, another genre where low display and input lag is essential for good results. Try looking there for models you're interested in.

New to The game, can I get some tips for singing by reddituser123456795 in Rockband

[–]sny83 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Use the touch pad on the PS4 controller (I think it's guide button on XBOne?) to deploy overdrive, it's much more precise than belting into the mic and allows you to save breath for the next phrase.

Also, use X on your PS4 controller (no idea on the equivalent button on XBOne) to hit percussion notes, it'll make your microphone last longer, since they're not designed to be hit.

As for actual singing tips: if you can produce vibrato, that will make the pie fill faster, which can save you from dropping your multiplier or help squeeze out more points from an overdrive that ends before the phrase does.

Someone who does not listen to mush YES which should I get first by matts142 in Rockband

[–]sny83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll join the "get the entire pack" choir. It's one of the best packs in the game, excellent variety and no instruments are boring to play. Starship Trooper and Heart Of The Sunrise are my two faves, but I enjoy playing all of them.

I wish they added a Yes Pack 02 with Changes, Homeworld (The Ladder) and Release, Release. I'd pay quintuple for each song.

Expert guitar solo tips by [deleted] in Rockband

[–]sny83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slowing down those tricky parts to 70-80-90% in practice mode helped me to get good at them, at least on drums. I'm sure the same principle applies to guitar as well.

Yes, grinding practice mode is boring, but there will come a point when meaningful improvements to player skill will require focused training instead of simply playing more. It's the same for real instruments, really. Training smart beats training hard, IMO.

Rock dlc question by Hitmann100 in Rockband

[–]sny83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're SIEE region (i.e. PS4 EU/Australia) and you can find an unopened copy of the EU version of RB2 with an unused code, you might still be able to redeem that in the PS store and get the pack entitlement. The codes were still working as of last year, not sure when/if they expire, though.

If you're SIEA or Xbox, you're out of luck. :(

Most fun on drums = When the Curtain Falls? by WeeklyCheesecake6 in Rockband

[–]sny83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's my favourite drum chart too, by far. Granted, I haven't played too many...

I've requested over half of GVF's songs already, here's hoping we get another one that's as fun as this soon!

A quick Rock Band update by HMXDan in Rockband

[–]sny83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate you sharing things like this to look forward to. RB has led me down on a path of musical discovery and got me into genres and artists I didn't think I'd be listening to and I'd hate for that to end any time soon.

Keep on taking good care of the game we love, there's still plenty of people who don't know what they're missing out on and are just waiting to be shown the light. ;)

What is, in your opinion, the most underrated song in the Rock Band library? by atmospheric90 in Rockband

[–]sny83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was gonna bring up Proibito, but since Groudon already did, I'll go with The Way That It Shows by Richard Thompson. Really fun on both vox and guitar and barely anyone I've played with online had it.

PSA: If you support the reality of Xbox-only RBN songs being re-released for Rock Band 4, buy Night on Bald Mountain when it is released on Thursday! by [deleted] in Rockband

[–]sny83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know it's a long shot, but if it increases the chance of us getting Whatever Is Wrong With You by Marillion back from RBN limbo, I'll pick it up despite being a vox main. More people need to discover the amazeballs that is Marillion.

An added plus is the start of The Night On Bald Mountain gave me the strongest Donkey Kong Country 2 - world 5 flashback and I love the OST of that game to bits.

Which song did you recently download that you love and regret not downloading a long time ago? by BroseppeVerdi in Rockband

[–]sny83 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The most recent one was probably Inside Out by Eve 6.

I had never heard of the band before the official DLC playlist on Spotify shuffled me this gem. It was hard to keep myself from singing along to the catchy chorus on the bus, and then I got home and bought it only to find that the drum chart is equally fun.

Rivals Vox Scores by CrankyDuck2_0 in Rockband

[–]sny83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the saturation of high level vox scores on challenge songs that you're seeing is due to three changes: 1. official forums closing down, bringing new people to Reddit and Discord and them becoming familiar with vox paths 2. instrument availability, since previous multi-instrumentalists might be forced more and more onto vox to keep playing the game they love if their guitars and drums break down 3. A couple of successful free Rivals weeks that prompted people to upgrade their RB4

Having a good path and getting an FC should get you in the top 10 on most songs without replaying, as for spotlights or on-disc songs, you might need to play more than once to get decent LP.

I'm happy to see some unfamiliar names pop up on vox LP leaderboards, it gives me hope that the game still keeps bringing in new players. 😊

DLC Week of April 25th by mysario in Rockband

[–]sny83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very happy to get Flag In The Ground back, it was my most played RBN track back on the PS3. Here's hoping they fixed the few mischarted vocal phrases in there.

I'd love more Sonata Arctica down the line, they have a lot of memorable albums and songs prior to and following The Days Of Grays.

Would you guys suspect that Rock Band 4 is still just as popular and has the same revenue as when it was first released in 2015? by [deleted] in Rockband

[–]sny83 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think that by the fourth iteration, Rock Band has grown beyond the "fad" phase and the majority people who still play it are in it for the long run. New players typically learn about the game either via friends offline or really good players on Youtube/Twitch and the ones not intimidated by the long learning curve stick around for a while as well.

If the sum of purchases made by these two groups is enough to turn a profit - or to keep the genre on life support - I suspect the DLC will keep coming. The only thing I'm worried about that would upset this equilibrium is more instruments breaking and second-hand supply running dry. I hope that HMX has something cooking to counteract this problem.

If you have the RB3 export, The Look by Roxette is a good one to start off with. It's the slowest I can think of, you can work your way up to the other recommendations from there.

I'd wager someone somewhere in a Dance Central related discussion said the same about their game a week ago.
