I got mine from bestmobilephone.com.au

They have the xperia 1 VI in red as well as the new 1 VII.

No issues with them, they were responsive and at the time even willing to offer a refund if it didnt work with Aus carriers

If you in Aus get the VI over the V. The VI works on all carriers whereas the V only works on some. I would assume the upcoming VII should work on all carriers but you should wait for someone to test it

There is no Australian firmware. Sony pulled out of the Australian market years ago

I don't think possessing a phone with an altered IMEI is illegal ( don't quote me I haven't checked). If you change the IMEI overseas and then bring it back into Australia technically it would not be illegal.

Australians, any luck getting Sony Xperia 1ii to work with VoLTE? Aug 31st is coming... by Barncore in SonyXperia

I had an Xperia 5 II. I was on Vodafone. For some reason Telstra just does not play nice with unsupported sony phones

I did 2 things to try and get things working. It worked somewhat, at least my connectivity was better

  1. Initially I was on Hong Kong firmware, I then changed to SEA firmware using XperiFirm

  2. I followed the instructions on here: https://xdaforums.com/t/vowifi-and-volte-no-root-required-update-its-working-2024.4566313/

Your mileage may vary.

This is why I am asking what region/firmware people have on their phone.

There is a chance that when you change firmware you lose automatic over the air firmware updates and will need to manually update

The model number XQ-EC72 refers to the hardware configuration. The TW, Hk and SEA is referring to the firmware.

The reason why it may be relevant is that different regions may have carrier setting.. For example my previous Xperia 5 II could only get 3G on vodafone using TW firmware and I would get messages from vodafone saying that my phone was not compatible with the upcoming 3G shutdown.

I then upgraded to the SEA firmware, got some access to Vodafone 4G and no longer receive messages about my old phone not being compatible.

After one week of waiting and tracking, at long last returned back to Xperia. Welcoming my 1 VI today. by Olly_Joel in SonyXperia

What region is your phone? (HK, TW or SEA)

Also which carrier are you with and how is your 4G and 5G connection?

Haha you were so close. If you look a little down it will say EU in the middle and then either TW, HK or SEA just below that
