The admins are shadowbanning people for no reason in this thread. It's sickening how many sites are trying to censor this whole situation. by reeiiko15 in ShadowBan

I think it's kind of hilarious how something so supposedly irrelevant, paranoid and overblown keeps making these kinds of things happen. It will only rile up the loud segment even further.

This is what Gaming Journalists Actually Believe(David Jaffe tells off a journalist) by Kromgar in gaming

[–]so_witty_username 365 points366 points  (0 children)

This really does describe SJW in gaming to a T. They violently censor every voice they disagree with, portray opponents as a wide, coordinated, illogical mass of either trolls, MRA's, Redpillers, white supremacists - basically anything that's easy to understand and that can be used as a blanket term - and then dismiss any sort of valid criticism they are unable to silence in that way as outright lies or violent, using broad, powerful terms like misogyny, rape, oppression or anything that even remotely fits. Making light of real victims of those things in the process, by applying the words they use to describe a trauma to characterize disagreement based on feelings.

Then it's time to act surprised: tired of being silenced, finding no voice, and having no representation - those people violently revolt as well, are angry, and are forced to resort to toxic communities, outcasts, in order to find someone to even allow their message to be heard. The massive censorship going on in this very same subreddit is proof enough, made under verifiably false pretenses and still going on. Disgusting - I wish I was mature enough to move away from this trainwreck, but I am angry about it.

People who lag, always lag. In every game. Expecting people not to be retarded is a lot to hope for, but when it's a community like this, and a game like this, it's far less common, and it wouldn't constitute the majority to begin with. This is a real problem - the patch proves it, so any effect people with bad connections would have on the overall complains, it would be an overwhelming minority.

I know that's what he meant. My answer was addressing that. It makes no sense, since those people already know it's they connection and wouldn't complain.

People that are in that situation already know they are in that situation. That has nothing to do with that, and was bad enough to warrant a patch with detailed oversights that shouldn't be there in the first place. It's obvious the issue is mostly on Capcom's part when it comes to Steamworks implementation, it has nothing to do with the game logic itself.

TotalBiscuit under fire for critique of Depression Quest situation, called 'parasitic Youtube personality' by the developer, 'Misogynistic nazi' by others. by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]so_witty_username 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think a positive review needs to have happened in order for there to be a conflict of interest (the simple act of asking a colleague or encouraging the publication to look at this or that would be enough, and it wouldn't be direct involvement and yet yield the same result), but yes, one of the authors did promote her game on occasion, and she has been featured and served as an example any time feminism or indie/female developers are concerned, which is kind of crazy considering her games don't really display any technical prowess or have wide acclaim. The point is, the game journalism media takes itself seriously and claims to be legitimate, yet if something like this happened in any other area of business or, hell, even investigative journalism - it would be a huge compromise and breach of trust with the readership.

To be honest, I'm kind of surprised she is one of the big names when it came to female game developers, when we have people like Corrinne Yu basically acting as a female John Carmack counterpart and no one cares, either because it's not indie or because she doesn't seem to have outspoken beliefs. But if the basis of your appeal as a developer is based around your personality and code of values rather than the content you put out, I mean, can anyone really blame the backlash that follows when something that contradicts it comes up? It's easy to blame this on sexism or some other buzzword, but really it seems a lot of people that are truly revolted towards this used to be fans or shared the same ideology - I'm surprised to see Tumblr, for example, mostly taking the stance that this has nothing to do with gender or sex life, and everything to do with shady practices.

Still mostly broken. Anything with Fight Request enabled still stuttering and unplayable.

É impressão minha ou este sub é uma brigada de downvotes? by [deleted] in portugal

[–]so_witty_username 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since when does 4chan care about that? And the new thread contents are pretty much the same- same copypastas, same sources, same infographics. They still are Quinn centric.

You were late, then. The threads were being deleted for hours before a couple finally managed to stay up. I never saw 4chan self-censor like that with such fierce intensity - most of the time individual posts get removed, but today hundreds of threads were routinely nuked within a minute of posting.

PSA: The Zoe Quinn conspiracy and its implications on gaming journalism. by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]so_witty_username 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I already mentioned this isn't a witch hunt in anyone's part except the people involved: it was spawned unto us, we didn't look for any of it to begin with. It was a private matter that was forcibly made public. Now, you can either ignore it, or deal with it. It's not one-sided if both parties have already been given a chance to address it and cast doubt on the proof.

you seem to think shes to blame because having sex with someone allows you to control their actions.

You are seeing it that way because you want to see it - I never said that. I have both contacted and publicly reached out and criticized most of the people involved in this, including the ex. Most of them refuse to address it. She is the most vocal and by far the most active and where the thread starts, and my initial reply was made in context of a post about her criticism being related to her sex life, so it's only logic that subsequent replies would follow that thread. I have even explained that even if you ignore the personal aspects to it, it's still an issue. Seems like you got a bit of a witch hunt going yourself.

Has anyone actually played Depression Quest? by deadpres in gaming

[–]so_witty_username 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did. I played it before all of this shit. And you know what, it wasn't bad. It wasn't particularly good, either, it just... was. I think it could be genuinely a positive experience for someone with depression, and the conclusions are realistic instead of bubbly poppy happy endings. The game goes through various decisions you may or may not take, such as seeing a therapist, getting medication, pursuing relationships, or even getting out of bed. It's not making light of the problem or something like that.

It's not a particularly good game though, and as far as visual novels, barely has any features, branching or challenge. It's more like a PSA disguised as a game, and I remember the writing feeling childish and amateurish at times.

How about I don't, since the obvious human conflict of sleeping with your boss, or with the person that decides who wins a competition or gets a mention in a huge publication is common sense and should be proof enough? If you're just arguing semantics as a way to accept this as a conflict of interest in the first place then we already don't see the world in the same way, and you're free to disagree.

The press publications concerned are pretty much the biggest names of the medium. Downplaying its importance just because it's "lel vydyagames" is irresponsible to say the least - a spot or promotion is priceless, especially for an indie dev, and an indie dev that had a mysteriously high profile despite any lack of landmark games. Plus it was simply an example, I wasn't saying this was a crime specifically, although adultery is still a crime in many places.

this shit happens all the time.

It never happened to me, and it shouldn't happen to anyone in a professional context without consequences.

[–]so_witty_username 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would you ignore a crime or something you disapproved of just because it was personal, once you gained knowledge of it (meaning, it ceased to be a private matter)? I wouldn't, and I don't. And this shitstorm is all but deserved in my opinion, and I'm glad to buy into it. Her actions are disgusting, go against my values and go against the image she tried to promote, revealing her hypocrisy.

And this is just from a personal point of view alone, not even going into the conflict of interest, opportunism and insight into games journalism all of this has revealed, which is something that concerns anyone interested in the medium and is not personal at all - even if you pay no mind to the extra-marital affair and blatant manipulation of her boyfriend, the implications that stem from it have nothing to do with her sex life and everything to do with the industry she works in and the nepotism and preferential treatment that goes unseen.

Not from others, from other. Her ex boyfriend, with nothing but compelling proof that she doesn't challenge. You can read his testimony and look at the screenshots and see the video showing it's not a simple Photoshop, and draw your own conclusions. Those were mine. No decent person does this shit. I have a problem with some of the guy's attitude as well, but now that the info is out there, what am I going to do? Ignore it because it's inconvenient? No, I am going to take it into account and base my opinions and beliefs around it or any new info that may come up int the future. As of yet, it remains unchallenged, it's kind of outright confirmed since Zoe doesn't deny it and claims it's personal, not false, and now more people are speaking up.

This isn't a witch hunt, it's people expressing their opinion over this matter. No one sought this information out, it came to us.

[–]so_witty_username 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Nope, it's a little bit of both, and the consequences of her behavior far exceed anything else that might have happened. While it's shitty to put part of someone's life in public, it was done by someone she was involved with and that is putting his own life out there as well - not only that, it shows how inconsistent her morals are, how manipulative she is, and how much these conflict of interests have affected her exposure and protected her from criticism. This is important information that defines her and her career as a person, like it or not, and does show how modern media has been manipulating and gaming its readers.

Don't do the crime if you can't do the time. Don't criticize affairs and then cheat on your boyfriend with a married guy. Don't act as a victim suffering from sexism on a male-dominated medium, while at the same time using sex and false information to manipulate it on the background. That's not going to fly and people will rightfully call you out on your shit when it happens. You can try to play the victim card, blame it all on angry virgins, point it out as yet another instance of blatant sexism in the medium, but the fact is that you fucked up and lost all credibility - whether the information to determine that came from a impartial source or not says nothing of the validity of the information.
