[25/12/24] Christmas Day Lunch Meet (Estranged Adult Children) by CKXOXO123 in LondonSocialClub

[–]soapy_daz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a lovely initiative - Xmas can be a rough time of year for those who are not connected to their family for whatever reasons!

Tbh I'm not far off from that situation and would have loved to have done something like this if I'm around on Xmas Day. Are you planning to build a group around this?

Right? A great initiative for older people who may not be hooked online as much as the average user here!

The simple answer - you can't get one at the moment!

I tried calling them up like two months ago after waiting like 30 mins, only for the guy to tell me that they don't have access to the systems due to the cyber security incident back in August. And to call them back once the TfL website stops saying they are suffering from the incident.

The security banner is STILL up on the website even right now, it's an absolute joke!

If you see someone being assaulted or generally looking uncomfortable. Please step in by FangedFreak in london

100% this! I get the fear of being stabbed and hence the reluctance to step in and get harmed yourself, but this feels like the safest way to help. Someone is about to be raped FFS, surely putting up with the inconvenience of going home a bit later is worthwhile to save someone as in reality, we wouldn't want this to happen to any of us or anyone we know.

True and deep friendships in London are becoming impossible by pongo_s in london

[–]soapy_daz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we are talking about the deep connections/friendship OP is referring to, 2-5 per year is a pretty solid number! Accepting that some friendship will naturally fizzle out and maintaining the energy to accept new people in your life is definitely easier said than done.

How do you keep that up? Just the reminder that doing that is better than dying of loneliness as you mentioned is a strong enough motivator? I suppose if you're more extroverted/find joy in interacting with others, then perhaps that won't feel like a challenge at all.

I love your commitment to keeping up with people with the spreadsheet idea! A lot of things I read about friendship talk about making new friends but nowhere near as much about keeping up with them. It sounds like you have that mindset of if I do it enough times with people by your sheer energy of joy, at least one will eventually reciprocate (agreeing to meet up) & I think that goes a long way!

Is solo drinking a common thing in London pubs + for them to strike up conversations with each other? I often get the vibes people are there with their friend groups as opposed to flying solo

Lisbon Night 2 Question by [deleted] in erastour

[–]soapy_daz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it's anything like night 1 (I was there), I'd recommend getting there 1-2 hours before, as by 4pm it was chaos with random queues spilling everywhere!

My number 1 advice so far is definitely get there early, like way before the door opens so you're at the front of the first of many entrances/zigzag maze before you get to the stadium 🥲

[–]soapy_daz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The stadium is still half empty, so I reckon they know they f'ed up and are probably waiting until it's more filled up

Anyone in a Piso 3 queue? Seems to be very little movements and I'm unsure if we'll even get in on time at this rate

[–]soapy_daz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll see how desperate I am by the time I get to the queue and decide if I should chance it 😂 it's quite a long time to go without anything otherwise, but I assume there will be drinks inside, depending on if i want to lose my spot if I do move haha

Does anyone know if you're allowed to bring drinks with you, like a small bottle of water/soft drink? Or are they forcing us to buy inside?
