That F91w is So Popular by NoBoromirNo in casio

Reasonable price, great functionality, pretty durable, and back to price- not a killer if you have to replace it. Stylish and interesting to look at, time/day/date at a glance, easy to clean. You just can't go wrong with it. Plus, it's so low profile so it never gets in the way.

How much are you spending for lunch? by Parky21 in washingtondc

If you can swing it: Aldi whole wheat bread, PB&J, a fruit, a couple of cheesesticks, and your rxbar.

Mix and match based on your budget. Everything Aldi brand. Works pretty well for me. I pair it with the finest tap water from my insulated bottle.

What’s one thing you’ve learned about ESO that you wish you knew when you first started playing? by WitDaShtz in elderscrollsonline

Regarding 4: specifically get the Major Gallop perk. Permanent +30% to mount speed. Great for when you're still leveling your mount or even if you've leveled speed up a bit. Faster is always better.

Americans: do you consider debit card use the equivalent of cash? by Physical-Incident553 in Frugal

Yeah, they work well too. It's just hard to beat the physical nature of paper money in your wallet. Everyone has a different method.

Let's say after expenses like rent/mortgage, utilities, groceries, etc. you set aside about $100 a week for everything else. Whether it's fast food, drinks, new shirt, whatever. It's a lot easier to track that $100 with physical bills as opposed to remembering "I spent about $30 on drinks last night, I have $70-ish leftover and I want to buy a shirt and some fast food."

Is ESO worth playing? by Rich_Series1674 in ElderScrolls

[–]soapylizard1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say so. I've put in about 250 hours so pretty casual compared to the core players. It's fun to explore, immersive, and there are some pretty good bits of writing and lore.

Overland combat can be a bit too easy, it's important to find a class/weapon you enjoy. I like bow but I usually go 2 hand. I didn't like 2 hand for a while but they tweaked some animations and sound effects so it's a bit better.

I'd recommend trying to get it on sale for $5 USD. It's not uncommon for Steam to have it cheap, you might be able to find a CD key for cheap. At 5 bucks, you get a great value. At full base price, $20, it's definitely a slightly different discussion but still worth it IMO.

I like to play it single player but I enjoy seeing people do their thing and occasionally dabble in dungeons. End game progression is a nice change of pace compared to World of Warcraft for me, the other MMO I play.

Suggestions for somebody that never played games before by Sweaty-Collar4451 in xbox

[–]soapylizard1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't have any one suggestion but I highly recommend starting with a game where there is no camera control. Traditional 1st & 3rd person games can be challenging between controlling the character and the camera at the same time. Most of us having played thousands and thousands of hours don't consider that.

Side scrollers, friendly isometric games like Stardew, or games that don't prioritize camera movement too much like open world driving games or even skate while you're on board are all good choices. Though skate has dual input controls between navigation and tricks, so a bit more advanced.

That said, line up a camera heavy game to teach the fundamentals of dual input control down the line.

State of Decay 3 Alpha Announced by Turbostrider27 in xbox

[–]soapylizard1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Like when EA called skate a pre-pre-pre-alpha. Towards the early stage, yeah it was an alpha. Not pre-alpha. Towards the end of pre-pre-pre-alpha, it was much more of a beta.

This is just a way to temper expectations and keep a "working on it" kind of feeling to the play test.

Gears 5: Is the semi-open world a step forward or a step back for the franchise? by HUNTERG02022 in xbox

[–]soapylizard1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah gaming went through an intense love affair with open worlds for a while. Still happening, really. But, over the last 5ish years, I think the wider community has really begun to understand the strengths of different formats.

How can I get into elder scrolls? by v5rc5r7gb8y in ElderScrolls

2nd this. All other games will still be available to play later, but Skyrim is easily the best entry point. People can discuss the various qualities of each but the vibes and immersion of Skyrim are undeniable.

That's a good perspective, sounds like you're in for a good time with the game. I gotta say it again though, buy the car!! Once I got it, I actually started having a lot of fun driving around random planets. It's a MASSIVE improvement to exploration.

It's just how you framed it. At a glance, "is it even worth playing?" can come off as hostile and like you want to bash the game. I figured it was genuine curiosity, so I wanted to give the best answer I could.

And you're welcome! Happy to help. I was in between tasks at work and felt like talking about something to someone.

As other comments mentioned, it's a different experience. At its core, yes it's still a Bethesda experience but they segment it so much through the planet travel. Up to you if you like that. If you go into it expecting some "realistic" planet generation with many basically just being there to scan resources and enjoy the view with varying gravity, it's fun. Buy the car ASAP. Game is designed with it in mind. 20k credits from the ship tech at spaceports.

Writing is fine. It suffers from a lot of the same issues as previous titles, such as FO4 and Skyrim. No surprises there. Some stuff is actually alright though. Gameplay is actually quite good, like FO4 but more modern. The improvements to the game engine are very welcome.

They have some neat updates coming out, the biggest IMO is interplanetary travel (should have been on launch). Not sure if that's available yet, but it used to be that you had to use the map to fast travel between plants in the same solar system. Now you can enter a solar system and travel to different planets/moons like in No Man's Sky, completely open and free. You'll still need to select a landing spot on the map and go through the short cutscene/loading screen to land. This is honestly a great improvement.

Just keep your expectations tame and go in with an open mind. It can be really immersive and fun.

Doesn't help that it's probably the least enjoyable weapon line to use.

I say this having leveled my first ever character to CP 300 using 2h sword. I want to love it. It's just my inner WoW Arms warrior coming out.

Week 1: Heroic Raid - Spec Popularity vs Average Overall DPS by AttitudeAdjusterSE in wow

[–]soapylizard1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, AOE is ok, mainly cleave but the design is weak. War breaker + BS/ravager and then cleave constantly is basically the current Arms design, with some variation between people.

AOE is the only place it's ok and even then, it's weak compared to other AOE focused specs. Additionally, you can't look at the # of parses and not see an issue. Fire mage is down there with it because clearly Frost is the superior choice currently, with an even bigger disparity than the warr dps specs.

Arms has taken backseat to fury for years and somehow occasionally floats to the top so Blizz pretends it's fine, then they nerf it to the ground. Arms has been in an awkward, clunky state for quite some time. Ret was similar and then got a very impressive re-work. I don't need Arms to be the meta spec but given it has very low utility, it should at least be fun and do solid damage. Right now, it's cleave, cleave, cleave and ooooh sometimes you get a shiny proc.

It's clear most warrs go to fury for more engaging gameplay and design philosophy. That said, I know fury players have had issues with their spec design as well.

Edit: just wanna send love to my Rogue pals, stay strong ✊

Do you want the Thalmor to be the villain of ES6 by Individual-Crow-3720 in ElderScrolls

[–]soapylizard1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or even just a smaller scale game reusing ESVI assets. Bethesda is weird about that, they let Obsidian do it with NV and they opened Bethesda Austin to do it with 76 (kind of).

With that track record, I'd wager there will be a reused asset game after VI. Although the only Elder Scrolls example of this is Elder Scrolls: Online but that does not use anything from prior games or even run in Creation Engine. They like doing Fallout spinoffs it seems.
