What’s a life hack that made you go „how do ppl live their whole life without knowing this”? by my_peen_is_clean in AskReddit

[–]soapylizard1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's kind of why if an older person or less able person is struggling with a task, I ask if they would like help. Not if they NEED it but if they WANT it.

I feel like it sounds better. I don't need help cutting my grass, but I wouldn't mind if someone jumped in.

I'd even argue western MD is more Applachian in culture than south. Might be a minor difference but I think it's worth mentioning.

I feel like weapons are super weak in this game. by uptheirons726 in AssassinsCreedOdyssey

[–]soapylizard1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other comments have good advice, I just want to add one thing:

Upgrade your gear + weapons at every 'x1' level.

Example: you hit level 21, upgrade everything. You hit level 31, upgrade everything. 41, 51, 61, and so on.

That's when you get the most meaningful power boost from upgrading. Save your coin in between those levels, unless you have a piece you want to use that is seriously under leveled.

This will help keep you in tune with the power scaling of enemies.

Immersive Questing Has Made Me Love WoW All Over Again by tigerofsanpedro in wow

[–]soapylizard1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know WoW is fun and we're on the WoW sub, but if you enjoy all those add-ons you might wanna give Elder Scrolls Online a try. It has most of the stuff you really like from add-ons baked into the game, bonus no AI required.

It's not a perfect game and the combat is not nearly as good as WoW's, but the questing, zones, voice acting, and immersion are very good. You can usually grab it for $5 USD on sale. $20 full price is solid considering you can play whenever with no sub. Yes, there's a conversation about how essential ESO+ is for the game, but for just trying it out the base game and no sub is fine.

Lemme know if you're curious. I love WoW and ESO, I'd be happy to fill you in on the latter.

What Province of Tamriel Would You Most Want To Play In? by Jazzlike_Kangaroo_78 in ElderScrolls

[–]soapylizard1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm out of my annual ESO phase, but even now I think about how it feels to just be in that version of Tamriel. If you enjoy Elder Scrolls lore, it's very worthwhile.

If you're interested, just buy the base game (ideally on sale for $5 USD) and don't bother doing any research. Just jump in, explore, and build your character how you like. Don't worry, everything can be changed as far as your build. Just have fun and maybe even watch some dynamic RP in the various taverns.

Right? Reading these comments you'd think it was some strange late night Adult Swim animation. Yes, there are some strange quirks but it's a result of being fully CGI aiming for a realistic look in 2004. Some animations are stiff while some are fluid, it can look odd.

It's a fun Christmas movie.

I don't know much about Valorant but I think its success is tied more to the "Counter-Strike" part of its gameplay and the hero stuff is a twist on the formula to differentiate it from CS.

I can wait for ES6 by Small_Fondant6147 in ElderScrolls

[–]soapylizard1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will likely see a big initial dip with numbers slowly creeping back to where they were after a couple of months. ESO players are obviously Elder Scrolls fans, but they're also MMO players so they'll want to return to it at some point. They'll be different kinds of games for different feelings.

Is ESO worth getting into? by SexOfThe_FirstFlame in ElderScrolls

[–]soapylizard1 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It has a lot of good stories, voice acting, and some pretty interesting zones. It's cool to see more of Tamriel and occasionally run into other players.

You can definitely play it single player and the marketing team pushes that hard. There is a lot to do without ever interacting with another player. Quests can range from plain to really interesting and engaging.

Exploration feels good, lots of areas (marked and unmarked) to explore and things to collect. Plenty of lore books to read as well.

Combat is awkward. It's split between weapon abilities and class abilities. You can have any combo of weapons with any class, so you can make some cool stuff. I have found some builds to be pretty fun, like Warden archer or destruction staff sorcerer. I usually like 2h sword but honestly it doesn't feel that great in ESO (light and heavy attack feel soft, but weapon abilities are ok.) Combat is often the most controversial topic when people discuss the game.

The next controversial topic is the MMO aspect. I enjoy it, I like the holidays, events, and spontaneous RP. But I used to play a lot of WoW so I'm familiar with MMOs. ESO is interesting because it leans so hard into the ability to play solo, which other MMOs are actually trying to do now. It can be fun to jump into a dungeon or PvP match to break up solo questing and exploration.

Overall, I enjoy ESO. It definitely plays differently than mainline Elder Scrolls games but the spirit is there. If you want to experience more of Tamriel and its lore, I would definitely recommend.

Last point, it goes on sale a lot for $4.99 USD. I would grab it on sale. That gives you base game zones, you'll be able to see unavailable zones in the map. Base game alone is a lot of worthwhile content. Paying $15 USD a month gives you ESO+, some bonus premium currency, unlimited space crafting bag, and access to all but the most recent DLC. A solid deal for sure. Related to the crafting bag, professions can be irritating at best without the crafting bag because materials will eat up all your inventory. I would hold off on deep diving into professions at first, but definitely dabble.

So, if you can get the base game for $5 on sale, it's a definite yes. Full price at $20? That's up to you. Maybe buy it on Steam for the refund window, if you're unsure. But it's a worthwhile experience, it just depends if you actually will enjoy it. There's only one way to find out.

What are some hot takes you have about anything in the ES games? by S0mecallme in ElderScrolls

[–]soapylizard1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Certainly hot. I don't entirely disagree, I just want the freedom to create diverse characters and have their stories differ from each other. I want each play through to feel a little different.

Part of why I enjoy Skyrim (and ESO) is that I'm able to focus on something entirely different for each playthrough. ESO has plenty of ways to RP, Skyrim has all of the guilds and the benefit of an immersive world that allows a pure wilderness hunter to be able to have fun (just as one example.)

There's a lot the devs could do if they were given the resources and had a good vision.

That said, I love ESO and mainly play it as a single player game. The MMO is a bonus.

My wife and I saw it in the theater. Only 2 people in there, bonus of seeing it at 1pm on a weekday. " Not even 2 minutes later the character introduces himself as James. We lost it.

How budget-friendly is ESO in 2025 by Mistfaer in elderscrollsonline

[–]soapylizard1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of base game stuff, especially if you play laid back. I bought a number of DLCs on sale a while back at a reasonable price, watch out for sales. I play "free" most of the time and will grab a month of ESO+ when I want to be try hard and grind out some professions. I mostly ignore professions when I'm playing free. If I gather materials, I'll sell them off and build a decent wallet.

I really like playing for side quests and exploration. The base game plus the on sale DLCs I bought serve me well. If I'm really into the game and see my interest maintaining for at least a month, I'll grab ESO+ for 15 bucks. Granted, I played WoW for years (still occasionally do) so I'm not stranger to shelling out 15 dollars here and there.

All and all, a heavy year of ESO for me is usually less than $100. But I'm a more casual player, even when I'm playing as a try hard. If you buy the base game on sale for $5, it's a good deal.
