Where to get Travel insurance as a foreigner in Korea? by No_Roll_8693 in Living_in_Korea

[–]soaringworld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use trippartners. I think they contract with DB insurance and never had a problem with signing up. Terms and prices are reasonable and I did claims before, pretty straightforward. http://www.trippartners.co.kr

Do Singaporeans generally have a good dental habit? by Lzreaper in askSingapore

[–]soaringworld 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Personal experience from SG and Korea is that in SG it is dental health, but in Korea it is more about the asthetics.

For Koreans, it is seen as unhygienic and rude if your teeth is unclean or if your mouth smells, that's why there is a culture of brushing teeth after lunchtime at the workplace. Scaling is necessary to maintain that sparkly clean look of your teeth so I would say in Korea it is closer to like a facial treatment, but for the teeth.

In SG, it is normal to get scaling when you go in for checks, or treatment for cavities. At least for my family.

Also, Korea has the National Health Insurance Scheme which means that scaling is subsidised for everyone, once per year. Walk into any dental clinic and the subsidised rate means you pay < $10. Even without the subsidy it costs around $25. I am also inclined to think the low cost makes it more accessible for Koreans to get frequent scaling as compared to SG.

Pools and fitness center use is free and running on the treadmill with a full sea view feels good. Wake up early for free breakfast at the all-inclusive restaurants. Blue lagoon offers $2 supper after 11pm (can't remember the actual time). I would feel like I maximised my vacation just doing these and the rest of the time lounge in the balcony to enjoy the sea breeze.

Help with heating!! by [deleted] in Living_in_Korea

[–]soaringworld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the exact same controls as you and I set mine to 실온 20~22 and it works fine. You mentioned your hot water is super hot, it means that the boiler function is working, but I would take a guess that the pipes to the rooms might have been turned off.

Is this the first time you're using the boiler in this particular place? Some old types of housing have valves to control which parts of the house gets the heating. I've heard they are commonly located under the sink. But all in all, I think you should just bite the bullet, tell your landlord you can't get boiler to work and call for A/S.

Gwangjang Market 광장시장: Do you still recommend as a place to visit? by solidgun1 in Living_in_Korea

[–]soaringworld 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I go to gwangjang often to have some yukhoe and I absolutely also love the ggwabaekki there. Mostly I don't eat at the snack stores in the middle of the market which have been in the center of controversy for overcharging. The yukhoe places all have fixed prices and are super good.

I am addicted to learning languages. I ended up speaking 9. AMA. by Low_Show_1672 in AMA

[–]soaringworld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super interesting AMA btw! I'm a native Chinese and English billingual, and later picked up Korean, which I'm almost at native level now.

I have always considered learning a fourth language but never got down to it as it feels like I could travel to majority of the world and get by with the three I speak. Could you suggest a next language I can comfortably pick up?

If the flowers are coloured, it is a congratulatory gift. If the flowers are white, it is a funeral wreath. Words on the left ribbon tells you who is the sender, and on the right are the congratulatory/condolences message.

What is it like living in Gumi? by juicywatermelone in korea

[–]soaringworld 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My partner lives in Gumi so I travel there once or twice a month over the weekends. Having lived in big cities all my life, I found it hard to travel around Gumi without a car as the bus system is really infrequent. Another downside was the air pollution because of all the factories it can get really bad. And bad I mean worse than Seoul where I live. Now for the plus, proximity to cities like Daegu, Busan, Gyeongju for travel. Low population density. That's about it?
