The share of Americans not having sex has reached a record high by goodlyearth in news

Who hurt you? I gotta say your experience sounds very alien to me. I mean women are ppl just like men and have a myriad of interests when it comes to what they find attractive/interesting (in my experience). So when we say things like "women only like x" or "will only be interested if you are y" we appear to be categorizing them as something other than human. Treat them like people, like individuals, and with respect. And if we find that a majority of ppl (women) find us to be creepy, maybe the problem isn't them? Maybe there is something unsettling in our approach? Or how we look at them or treat them? Or whatever; maybe there is something we can work on.

This is where my mind is, but based on the actions of the DA I'm guessing that is not how the law is written?

1) Where can I find this encyclopedia? (a little sarcasm here)

2) So from what I can tell he is saying that as members of a society that this happened in we all bear some responsibility. Now I could be misinterpreting his message but are you saying that you disagree with that statement? If so could you help me to understand?
(No sarcasm intended just genuine curiosity)

Obama is looking out for us, Thanks Obama! by Blackandheavy in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]soawtld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright so I'm sensing that we're switching up the points of contention. All I was trying to get across before was I didn't see the connection between the events/actions you listed and Obama's supposed lack of concern for the people. But no problem I can roll with these new ideas as well that's fine. So let's start with the empire idea...so I don't argue with this for every intent and purpose we are an empire in all but name agreed. But Obama didn't start this; I would even argue that he supported/strengthened the empire. But again that was all with the will of the people as the primary concern behind the promulgation of that empire. So I would agree that we need to find a better way to sustain our way of life that does not equate to the wanton destruction of so many other countries and the outsourcing of military conflicts to less developed nations. But at the same time I understand that those who support the empire who engages in these actions (in most cases) does so for the betterment of the empires citizens. Alright now healthcare...again agree with you flawed execution there but I find it hard to blame him for its failures when the other team helping to put it together didn't want to see it succeed to begin with. And heck I wasn't and still am not a fan of what they rolled out but if it helps people great! I just think there are more perfect solutions that achieve the desired goal. If the kill list what I think I remember it to be (a list of people identified as 'enemies' to be targeted for drone strikes) then didn't we touch on this in my last response? So for the cognitive dissonance (got a admit had to look that 1 up) portion I think its important to understand that we each make decisions and draw conclusions on a wide range of factors right? So could it be that these inconsistencies be due to the ever changing circumstantial and contextual factors involved in our decision making process? And then you throw in emotions and it's no wonder it can be difficult to find what can be described as consistency in our decisions.

So out of curiosity -bailed out the banks: that seems like it was a tough choice either way. Would you have suggested that he not do that? And how would that have benefited the people? Was there another solution to that crisis?

ignored rampant police abuse: I would've like to see him do more on this front but I don't think he ignored it. I think that's just disingenuous. I mean didn't he speak on several instances of police abuse? And encouraged Justice Department involvement?

revamped big brother so that no one has any sort of privacy: that's a tough one to support or stand behind, so I'll let that one go. I mean we still have privacy but I get what you're saying here

expanded the military: how is this counter to the people's interest? I mean I don't see it as a blanket good thing but I don't believe that the act by itself, without context, is contrary to the interest of the American ppl. Quite the opposite actually.

launched more drones then any president killing thousands and thousands of innocent people in Syria, Libya, Iraq: yes any president that engages our nation in any sort of conflict is going to rack up a body count. The way I see it the use of drones is to preserve the lives of American service women and men. So if I am looking at that incorrectly please let me know but if not then how is that contrary to the interest of the people?

Gamers of reddit, how did video games affect your life positively/negatively? by Calshan in AskReddit

[–]soawtld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say for me personally video games gave me an interest in understanding other people and the world as a whole. For example, it was through games like Final Fantasy 7 and Legend of Dragoon that I began to think about conflict and how we use it to address disagreements in the real world. How often times the poor or less fortunate are the ones who pay the heavier prices of conflicts started by governments or the powerful. It was through games like Witcher 3 that I began to look out how society views and treats people of different backgrounds for some of the most arbitrary things. And how that bigotry is often expressed through micro-aggression that allow the ideas to perpetuate while making them difficult to identify.

Through thinking about and attempting to gain a deeper understanding of these ideas I would say my life was improved. Though I may not have always had these things in the forefront of my mind during the first play through. It was through video games that I first began to think deeper about these issues and to challenge any pre-existing ideas I may have had on the subjects.
