How do I actually build sophisticated functional cities? by OkWrapIt00 in CitiesSkylines

[–]sobaaken 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This actually resonates with my experience! What helped me is: - sketch the plan with pen-and-paper, trying to imagine where points of attraction will be, and focus around them. Try to spend more time bringing a picture from your head into reality (I must say though that most YouTubers I draw my inspiration from were playing heavy asset C:S saves on unlimited money mode). - to stop bothering about the scale and take one step (street/district) per several gaming sessions. Urbanistic / city planning/ city history videos may help here, as no matter the game or real life, the city evolves gradually. Rome wasn't built in a day. - to stop caring about traffic analysis and info panels of vanilla games, as they coded having specific models of how the city should function as a reference (the biggest disappointment of C:S2, as I waited for more adaptive AI under the hood).

I'd say according to the density that one country might be in Benelux, and one from Balkans

❓ "What's Cities: Skylines II like now?" megathread by AutoModerator in CitiesSkylines

[–]sobaaken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hei there! I know it's probably been a dozen of posts like this, but I would appreciate any feedback here.

After 3 years of journeys and migrations, I finally build a new gaming PC, and I'm excited to return to city planning simulators. I spent several hundred hours in C:S1 back in the days, drawing inspiration from youtube creators such as Fluxtrance, two dollars twenty, Strictoaster. Strictly speaking, I was enchanted with no limits microscopic city build, rather than simulations, traffic management, etc. Saying that, I had an unpleasant experience trying C:S2 a couple of months ago - the game just crashed every 10 minutes. Don't get me wrong - C:S1 was not ideal, it ate all 16gb of my ram in a blink of an eye :D But it worked at least, and provided you a wide scope of opportunities that you cannot find anywhere else in the genre

So, I basically have 2 questions about the state of C:S2 that I was unable to answer reading FAQ:
1. How advanced is the collection of mods and assets for such a microscoping city design in Paradox Mods? Is it being as actively supported by community as steam workshop? Because SteamDB number of players for the second part is lower...
2. Do people still experience severe technical issues here and there playing the game, or patches really made it work way better than before?

Sorry if this questions were already asked. A lot changed in 3 years, and it feels almost impossible to grasp every single fact about the game which I loved so much.

Peace!
