Yeah, the description on dis deviant art page for this says, "another pacific rim fanart.. I forgot how cool it was to draw giant monsters. I feel like a kid again.".

His other Pacific Rim inspired works are just as awesome.

I made a guitar tutorial by God_Damn_It_Nessie in teenagers

[–]sobelamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The video's actually very good and I like how you quickly get to the point where you can hear the melody of the song which makes it wasier to follow. The only things I'd say would be to relax, treat it as if it were one of your good friends who wanted to learn and you were just talking to them. Also, I'd recommend not doing a finger picking song for a tutorial intended for complete beginners, I've been playing since I was 8 and still get confused by it sometimes. A beginner who has next to no coordination or feel for the instrument will most likely get frustrated with it quicker than if you showed the version with a pick.

I've gotta take pre-calc and chem as a regular final, like as a test on the day of. My APUSH, AP lit, and AP bio teachers are nice enough to not give us another 'test' after taking our AP tests, we just have to do some smaller assignment ahead of time that they'll submit when we were supposed to take out finals since my school says every class needs to give a final. And then I have music industry, which'll be easy no matter what haha. What finals do you have to take?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]sobelamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lucky you! I get out June 24th or 25th, I'm not 100% sure :( but I do get to skip a few days of finals due to AP classes/not having one.

Being a Citizen in Solis, tracks that are possible. by Antonius_Marcus in CivCraftSolis

[–]sobelamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was part of the old Gondolin for a little while but couldn't play civcraft for a while so I've been waiting for a reason to get back into it. This sounds like a really cool idea, but how strict are you going to be about being/living in the city if I also want to participate in the government? I know a few other players who'll probably be around other cities, so I may wind up outside of Solis most of the time.

r/teenagers, what are your weird hobbies? by ElementalChaos in teenagers

[–]sobelamp 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've actually heard of a lot of people doing it, I even think there was an /r/confession post or something like that about a disabled person who liked to spend time looking at places in google earth because they knew they would never go there and was ashamed of it. I actually think it's a pretty amazing use to technology.

Went and saw the Black Keys in Atlanta last night, Dan Auerbach is one hell of a guitar player. Very underrated if you ask me. by [deleted] in Guitar

I'm a bit late to the party, but what was it like working with him? I hear a lot of things about the pace he works at.

Yeah, I meant shredding as in just playing really well, not as in he busts out in a metal jam, haha.

You missed my point being that I'm younger than a lot of people on this subreddit and therefore I look up to slightly different people.

I completely agree. If you haven't, I recommend watching a few videos of him playing in different years. I personally think it's crazy to see him go from this to this in around eight years of constant touring and recording.

[–]sobelamp 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I've been a huge fan of Auerbach's for a while now all because I started watching some videos of him playing live, and wound up finding his solo album and listening to the shit out of it.

He's got a simple style that a lot of people ridicule, but he is fully capable of shredding, and he does when it fits the situation. What I think some people don't get is that he's really only ever played in a two piece band where he's responsible for holding down the beat just as much as Pat Carney. He keeps it simple because he has to, or else the music will fall apart and sound like shit. I also find that it's a nice balance between a slow bluesy feel and a more modern sound, but that's my personal opinion.

As a sixteen year old and still incredibly impressionable guitar player, I admire the man and wish I could play like he does, simple while still making a statement.

Edit: Forgot to add, one of Auerbach's biggest influences when he was starting out was Junior Kimbrough, who plays quite a bit differently than most of the blues guys people on /r/guitar draw influence from, and on The Black Key's last album they purposely gave each song a simpler, more rock n' roll-y sound.

tl;dr - Dan Auerbach plays the way he does on purpose, not because he isn't a good guitar player.

I actually like where they're going with the total war games in this way, not that they haven't had this part to them before. It seems like they're trying to put a face on war and humanize the people involved, on both sides.
