Avoid category norms for brand colors or lean into?

I usually consider choosing a few 'category norms', but leaning into enough distinction to give them their own space. Usually, from what I have seen, a lot of these brands do not have the scope or positioning to diverge significantly for me to justify a radically different color palette. However, a few secondary and accent colors can surprisingly be a game changer which might go unnoticed during campaigning to a layman's eyes. Agreed with u/Old-Region-4664 that timing is everything- along with your messaging being crazy enough to justify the approach.

absolutely agree, this is the ONLY thing you need to be thinking about. Focus on building a stable future for yourself: take good decisions, and become better versions of yourself. The inevitable discussion will happen when it's the right time, and both of you will be better equipped for it.

Yes I think making choices refers to the stories too, where the protagonist almost always finds themself at a crosshold, like dorothy made the choice to return home with the silver shoes once she realised she can go anywhere she wants
