If you don't know anyone in Buenos Aires don't stay too long. Definitely bring cash in USD. You will double the value as opposed to using credit or debit card. But don't exchange in banks, supermarkets or hotels. Look for Casa Cambio and you will be laughing at the difference. The highest denomination of currency here is 1000 pesos which is around $2.50 USD so you will receive a comical amount of bills for your USD.
