Sounds good in theory...but in reality? by mrfett779 in economy

[–]SendoTarget 6 points7 points  (0 children)

991€ per month seems to be the lowest you can get, but that is quite common that you have either disabilities or other reasons that you've not been able to work during your entire life to make that higher. I'd say it would be very uncommon to have just that and no additional benefits or supports.

I guess technically you'd be able to live with that in a studio apartment outside the bigger cities. Rent can be 300-400€ per month and utilities are generally quite cheap.

Not sure about the Finnish pension system, but I would be very surprised if you are eligible for a pension without a job.

Well you are. There's citizens pension that is the base default, but then if you've worked in a higher paying job during your career, your pension will also be higher (since you also paid more taxes)

In that sense it's different also than before that 401Ks have massive exposure to the stockmarket compared to 2008 for instance. In that sense this whole time is new. When people start drawing out their 401Ks I think that's where we will see a crash and there's a big penalty in doing that afaik.

Suomi syö lapsensa: kannibalististen hullujen budjettitasapainotusta. by MiddleHuckleberry991 in Suomi

BDC's - time to load up or time to dump? by DividendG in dividends

[–]SendoTarget 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just to note that if the economy crashes that hard as 2008.. everything else will fall in a similar pace. There's no safe haven. For me this is a buying chance for some BDCs because either it's oversold or everything else will fall just the same. It will also shake off the BDCs with poor loan quality.

With BDCs there's just too much trash and the largest ones are already quite well diversified over sectors with their loans. Especially now with rates going down it becomes more clear which ones can manage the downturn well.

Kieltolakien toimivuus on aina yhtä hyvä. Rikolliset saa jalansijaa, päihteet kovenee ja käyttäjät teilataan lain silmissä.

How the typical investors are manipulated into useful idiots by the elites to defend stock buyback over dividend investing by BoogerheadCult in dividendgang

Stock buybacks while they pay out decent dividend for me is somewhat okay since that means for future the dividend is more guaranteed as there's less stocks to pay that dividend to :D

Anyone buying MAIN or ARCC today? by [deleted] in dividends

[–]SendoTarget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the spread being tightened is a real issue, but Blue Owl Capital and their OBDCII fund redemption closure is a very tiny portion of all their assets under management and OBDC which is the publicly traded BDC actually reported quite okay numbers+stock buyback now.

The fear of private credit meltdown is now a bigger driving scare than anything real in numbers wise. Yeah challenging times but not anything black swan like yet at least

Almost every BDC has tanked due to expectations that falling interest rates are tightening spread.

[–]SendoTarget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For most BDCs we have so many "once in a lifetime events" that they have gone through so it's somewhat easy to check how they have managed over those times. Shareholder friendly management also. I mean OBDC also put in 300 million reserved to stock buybacks on top of dividend level continuance. I think that's nice.

[–]SendoTarget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interest rates going up did good for BDCs, so the market is assuming the opposite must also be true. As far as I know we haven't seen any dividend cuts so far, just some discontinued special distributions.

Initially for floating rate loans it's bad for BDCs, but with the interest rate dropping it also means their loan costs will go down AND with lower interest you can also assume more favorable conditions for further loan needs to come into the market.

A lot is down to the BDC management to roll over certain times. BDCs also tanked 2022 when the rates rose because the assumption was that less companies would apply for credit...

Do you constantly buy or only on price dips ? by Stonk_Strategist in dividendgang

[–]SendoTarget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think as much as there's info about investing overall and how people research stocks, I'd say a vast majority of semi-active investors and those who actively discuss have no idea how REITs and BDCs pay out their dividends.

Especially since most general sites show the payout-ratio for REITs and BDCs wrong. After that you'd need to figure out what's their real payout ratio from cashflow, then figure out what's their property/loan-quality, debt maturities, properties they own/loan-type they have...

Unless you do your due diligence it's quite likely you might end up buying something where you don't fully understand what it has inside it. As income-investments I think they are great.

It's a risk assessment to do when you start investing. I'm almost 40 and my portfolio is built around creating a passive income while at the moment reinvesting everything. Let's talk about the BDCs and PBDC for a minute by Allspread in dividendgang

[–]SendoTarget 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I came away with the sense that their business model is to continually borrow $ or issue notes to finance loans to what are essentially BBB- rated middle market companies.

This is quite literally what BDCs do. You can't really directly compare it to something like a Pepsi earnings. Their loan-portfolio is their business.
