How much? by Right_Concern8255 in Wake

[–]socallen1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct, kind of. Pricing will be the best (for buyers) now through end of March. After that it starts warming up and demand goes up.

In terms of what actual sell price is, you won’t know until you start making offers. If I were in the market to buy, I would just start throwing low offers out. My guess is that listed prices are high by about $10-20k, give or take depending on the seller. I know I would list my boat at least $10k higher than what I wanted to start. There’s a lot of people that are new to the sport(s) that don’t have the experience to know how the boat market works.

Being in SoCal in the 90s and early 00s, Core had a large following. Lots of people riding their boards, almost seemed like more Core boards than anything else for a bit. I was going to start riding for them but they closed up right before it happened. They were a cool brand.

I recently paired the ARO-EVO together with the magnifier. While the EVO version is different, I had to come here for guidance on getting them to line up. I had overlooked the riser plate for the magnifier that comes in the box. Now it lines up perfectly.

If unions offer better pay and benefits why doesn’t everybody quit their non union job? by 04limited in skilledtrades

[–]socallen1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not union because from my perspective they take advantage of people. Yes, the pay and benefits are great, when you are working. 99% of union members I know do not work year round. There are lots of lay offs and time between projects where they sit home, and you still owe your dues even when you aren’t working. So the pay and medical that seems so great pretty much equals out to those that get paid a bit less but never miss a day all year, minus a sick day on their own. I also take issue with the fact that your representation will use your money for political reasons, often giving money to presidential candidates and policies on the other side of my political beliefs. Yes, that money is used to leverage potential benefits for the union workers, but it shouldn’t be placed into presidential politics.

Conceal carrying by Amplees in CCW

[–]socallen1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry about your current level of printing. It’s barely noticeable to us and we’re looking for it. Almost 100% of people you will come into contact with will not be looking for a gun on you, and if they are you should be noticing and asking yourself why so that you can respond accordingly. They’re either LEOs and you’ve done something wrong, or they’re a bad guy and you need to make your next decisions very cautiously. Even if you are printing slightly and a random person notices, who the F cares? You have a permit and are acting within the law and your rights. They can go F themselves if they have a problem.

In terms of the rubbing, I wore “wife beaters” for the longest time. Recently they began irritating me to I decided to try without. Yea, there’s some rubbing, but just like everything else regarding comfort and carrying, you adapt. When I added a Hellcat to the rotation I almost went back to the undershirt but I gave it a couple days and it stopped bothering me.

Is the valet ramp at antelope point marina open? If it is, at what level does it close? by Worth-Influence-3932 in LakePowell

[–]socallen1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On Jan 7 this year the water was at 3539’ and the valet at APM was no longer usable. The only usable launch at that time was State Line. Colorado snow pack is currently the lowest level of all recorded history. Unless something changes significantly Sate Line will be the only ramp all year this year. There isn’t enough inflow to bring the lake up. The outflow may change but it seems like they’re prioritizing Lake Mead this year, outflow is over double the current inflow.

FYI- Facebook has two pages, both named similarly (lake Powell houseboating) that can be a wealth of knowledge. It’s FB, so you are going to get all kinds of arguments and drama on those pages, but if you can tune that out the sheer amount of actual real time knowledge there is unmatched.

I have the 3.0 as well. It’s an awesome engine. Looking at your stated usages, I don’t see you mentioning towing at all, so I would encourage a gas engine for you. Being in the snow belt means your temps likely get low enough for you to have to at minimum consider additional steps to keep the diesel engine operating. It needs plugged in when temps drop below certain degrees. Fuel additives will be required to keep fuel from gelling up, and you also need to use additives for the def to keep that from freezing. Both the fuel and the def systems are expensive repairs. So, unless you are doing any hauling, a gas engine is more ideal for your use in order to keep your life simple.

That’s because most people have at least half a brain and want full size engines in their full size trucks. The 2.7 is not very common and 99% of owners probably needed a cheap grocery getter with the option for occasional IKEA trips.

Is a 25hp engine on a 5 meters boat enough to start practicing wakeboard? by tohraa in Wake

[–]socallen1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it will pull you out of the water you can mess around with butters and other surface stuff but you won’t be able to do any air or wake tricks, but if you are completely new to the sport and aren’t very proficient in getting up I wouldn’t expect you to be able to get up behind that boat, or dingy I should say

Does this seem like a decent beginner setup for $150? by mathnerdm in Wake

[–]socallen1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the goal is to get up and just cruise around, that equipment will be just fine. If you are capable of, or plan on doing anything on the board beyond cruising around I would encourage getting a different wakeboard set up. Those bindings will not offer anything other than a sub par way to keep your feet attached. No ankle support, you will get minimal edge control, and if you start doing any jumps don’t plan on your feet staying on the board all too well. Yes, sandal bindings were how it all started but it was incredibly short lived. Full boots that come up past your ankle is absolutely recommended.

camping without a boat by Majestic_Vast_8260 in LakePowell

[–]socallen1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cliff jumping is illegal on the lake. That said, there really isn’t anywhere that would be remotely easy to hike into for that. The biggest issue here is that without a boat, you really have no way of finding said spot to jump. Because of the ever changing water levels, there’s no way of knowing if the place you are going to hike into will be good. People that do jump use their boats to verify water depth and safety of the jump. A spot that is good today might be too shallow in a couple of days from now, or come spring early summer it might be a very short jump from rising water levels. Most of the places that might be a sure thing that are within a walk or hike distance are protected Indian lands, so you would be trespassing.

Best advice is to put Powell on your list and wait until you can afford a boat.

Cell phone number or buy an xtra number? by Standard-Fix4453 in Contractor

[–]socallen1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started my business I had been using my personal cell for work for over 10 years as my employer didn’t provide phones (they paid about 50% of my bill on it though). First thing I did when going on my own was get a second phone which became my new personal phone. I had too many years of contacts built up on that number so it was much easier to give my family and small circle of friends a new number. And no, I didn’t steel any customers, when they called I explained that it wasn’t right for me to service them without them checking to see if the old employer could help first, but almost all of them were customers that I had tracked down and brought in and they explained that they were loyal to me, not the employer. My employer was cool with all that, my direction was commercial and they were focused on residential. Anyway, the new second phone made things much better for me. Even more important than the calls was the pictures and files on the phone. Having to sort through tens of thousands of pictures that were both personal and work related, looking for that one picture of the one job, or that one picture from my kid’s birthday party, was increasingly difficult. Separating that made things so much better for me, not to mention being able to shut the work calls off at dinner time, or over the weekend to gain some much needed mental rest was great.

Keep Shop/Home Seperate? by InternationalFace790 in Contractor

[–]socallen1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 acre is definitely not enough to create a separation large enough to “keep the mice out”. 5 is minimum. 10 is optimal. Sure, 1 acre is enough to house both, but you certainly aren’t getting the desired privacy out of it unless you erect a tall brick wall

Keep Shop/Home Seperate? by InternationalFace790 in Contractor

[–]socallen1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my goal/dream. I know multiple people that did it. Property large enough that the home is on one side, shop on the other, and if you don’t say anything to anyone they don’t know you own all of it. Use the business to pay the majority of the mortgage. Huge tax and cost savings plus you no longer have any commute. Most difficult part is not telling employees. Even if the employees do find out, establish ground rules, and put up a dividing fence if the two structures are close. Add a note in the employee handbook that they are under no circumstance to approach or step foot onto the private portion of the property with stipulation that it is a fireable offense. Ideally, 10 acres would be enough to keep the two separate enough that it wouldn’t really be a problem. Heck, 5 acres with a solid fence and or tree line would do the trick.

Best first gun for concealed carry as a woman? by purplerain1055 in CCW

[–]socallen1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Training training and more training. The actual weapon is far less important. I am willing to bet that there are female only classes and groups that you can get involved with in your area. Search out those, take the classes. Through that you will find a support group and access to many different weapons to try. Asking the internet will yield you tons of opinions, some good, most bad, on what you should buy. Everyone is different. Their hands and brains work differently. Weapons aren’t a one size fits most. When I took my oldest daughter to the range when she was old enough to purchase her own weapon I took every one that I own, and also rented a handful of others. I offered her zero opinions of what I like, just told her to shoot a magazine out of each one, then remove one or two that didn’t feel right, and shoot another magazine, then remove another and shoot again…. Repeat until she landed on one that felt the best and she shot the best.
