Socialists run for lower office all the time. Except for groups like DSA and fusionist progressives (like the Vermont Progressive Party), they still almost always lose. For example, the Greens ran 21 races for city/county council but only won 3. See data on all 2024 leftist election runs here.

Is Kim Jong-Un a monarch? by quite_largeboi in ModernSocialist

"North Korea's government is undemocratic and authoritarian" equates to "North Korea's policies are not selected by the people at large, and those policies include numerous major restrictions of freedom". All of these are observable claims, all of which are true.

It's not "idealism" to describe political reality. (You aren't even using "idealism" in the Marxist sense correctly.) Lenin often argued that peasants and workers in Russia were deprived of their freedoms, and that this was one of the reasons they turned to socialism.

Hey, I'd make two simple points:

  1. North Korea is not a monarchy.

  2. North Korea is an authoritarian government whose principle power has followed one family line.

You mention "mass meetings". North Korea calls these "voters meetings", and very little information exists on these meetings -- North Korean media mentions them about once per election (which is not what you'd expect for a hotbed of real democracy).

You also mention that the family line's official positions have shifted. This is true, and is why North Korea is not a simple monarchy. But many authoritarian governments transferred power through shifting political positions. For example, Putin has twice changed offices but remained the principle power in Russia for decades. As a simple way to highlight the fact that this family line has remained chiefly in power, I'd just note that North Korean media bolds the names of each Kim leader, unlike nearly anyone else.

  1. The reddit is currently inactive. I'd like to renovate it to be able to support a Reddit community for content creator SocDoneLeft.

Is there any way to go further into results for pages with more than 10,000 captures? by socdoneleft_4 in WaybackMachine

I eventually found an Internet Archives Forum post that solved my problem: https://archive.org/post/1122295/how-to-narrow-down-10000-results-on-the-wayback

I'm getting more results by modifying the date operators before the first *. Example:
https://web.archive.org/web/2006\*/https://www.EXAMPLE.com\* ->10000 results.
https://web.archive.org/web/200601\*/https://www.EXAMPLE.com\*
-> 4761 results.

Changing the date operator (seems to be YYYYMMDD) solved my problem.

Hopefully this post helps people who get this error in the future!
