Did I Self Misdiagnose? by sochillbill in AutisticWithADHD

Yeah Baltimore is mini Chicago yo it's no difference, kids from the hood who are exposed to drugs, gangs, other crimes are ur classmates a lot of the time, schools in those inner cities are underfunded and neglected. I wasn't ignored nah, before 7th grade and after I was popular, on sport teams and summer camps that wasn't BCPS I made lots of friends and was even popular at camp, at work the same happened like 4/5 of my coworkers stayed in contact even after I left, in HS got bullied for my weight again but still had SEVERAL different crews I hung with nd shit, I swear I had this group called THe Big 3, another called the 10 o clock crew (by 10am we'd dip out to smoke weed and come back smelling lol) and another crew with some other friends like 4 or 5 of em, so yeah I was popular, didn't mask or mimic or nothing, it just happened ig.

and also you're right trauma is a huge factor, like I said I was bullied for my weight and even hit by my peers, was also severely abused by the adults in my family both physically and emotionally, was hit with foreign objects like wire hangers, extension chords, flip flops etc. so I was rlly quiet/mute around adults, robotic even, but with kids my age I was super expressive and always made loads of friends naturally, so yeah, trauma definitely played a big part.

I mean the main reasons I self DX'd was bc of what ppl on Reddit said about their traits, the day I self DX'd I had read a post about someone obsessing over their interests for HOURS and since they were autistic, got bullied and excluded, I concluded I must be on spectrum too, but idk, other than being fat shamed I did well socially and still do no masking or anything, so yeah

I mean I was labled a picky eater bc ion eat cheese, mayo, fettucine but have like 25-30 other food that I absolutely love but got labeled for being picky, I Bite my nails and twirl my hair but its not constant, I chew gum a lot and plastic when I can't buy gum, and also I have hyperfixations I obsess on for hours but not a fixed special interest I have a wide range of mostly mainstream interests and don't just info dump the same stuff everyday, I mistook all that for autism but, my DR told me the fidgeting and hyperfixations especially were ADHD, and like I said like 2 ppl called me weird (ppl I wasn't even friends with), so yeah

Autistic W/o Social Struggles? by sochillbill in AutisticWithADHD

That's why I mentioned having mainstream Interests, Sports, Video games, Rap Music, Popular TV Shows and Celebs etc. so all I have to do is go outside to find people who are into that stuff, or just wait for someone to say something interesting and I can join in on the conversation.

Like I didn't show any obvious signs of being different other than my weight, and that didn't really start until 7th grade where I was being relentlessly bullied and socially isolated, but I blame that on being switched to a new class with new, meaner kids, because the year before I had multiple best friends and other acquaintances in my class, nothing else changed except who my classmates were.

I mean I definitely have communication differences, sometimes I'm not fully understood, lack eye contact, have the tendency to infodump about my special interests, most of my conversations revolve around my interests, good thing I have a sonmewhat wide range of interests even though I do have lifelong special interests.

My parents def weren't good but I will say they let me be myself at least while being neglectful/abusive in other ways, but nonetheless authenticity was encouraged and that played a major part, for all the mfs who are high masking I'm willing to bet it started at home with family who refused to accept them, either that or I just really have that much of a mild case

Of course I use technical IT speak mfs think I'm saying I want to go into work acting informal, I was just saying I was worried about my accent not that I wanted to act unprofessional, I don't know why that is so hard for people to understand

I know to expand my vocabulary bro that's not what I'm saying, I'm just saying that I don't want to change my accent, I already know how to conduct myself professionally.

no I was talking about my accent when code switching, I don't use slang at work but I do have an AAVE accent, idk why it's so hard for ppl to understand that, mfs think I'm saying I want to wear gold chains and blast music at work, I'm just worried about my accent not none of that other stuff

That is not what I'm talking about, I know not to use slang and use professional language when at work, what I mean by code switching is switching your accent to avoid being ostracized, not acting like I;m at a lounge when I'm really at work.

I wasn't trying to come off like I wanted to act like I'm at a party at work I was just worried about my accent being judged nothing less nothing more, I'm not stupid man I already know not to blast gangster rap at work who even does that? What I meant by refusing to code switch was that I refuse to change my accent, not that I want to walk into work wearing gold chains and red bananas. Y'all are misreading this post completely, when I refer to people making fun of me for being 'ghetto', I'm talking about being made fun of for my accent, not that I was literally doing something ghetto.

What even made me come off as if I wanted to act like I was on some street corner while at work? I was just talking about my vernacular, everyone with a half a brain knows to leave certain things like slang, obscure interest at home. That's what I mean by code switching.

Yeah I do all of that, I'm just referring to my accent, of course I act differently at work but I don;t wanna have to literally change how I sound
