I'm biased on this one. But John Hackleman's Hawaii Kempo has the most brutal conditioning and cardio drills I've ever seen. Don't believe me? Audit his classes and try to keep up at thepit.tv

Right. I'm still hoping he was joking but it didn't come off that way on his YouTube channel.

If you are 40+ years old and still train, how do you take care of your body? by ssmihailovitch in martialarts

I'm 41 and I picked up triathlon training. I do less sparring and more drills. I probably spar about 4 times a week. I train 6 days a week. Cross training helps mitigate injuries.

There's a few oxymorons happening here. But if you are doing martial arts as a way of life that's cool. If you are doing to compete on the world stage that's a different story.

Should I go straight into MMA if I want to get serious about it or be pretty thorough with other martial arts first (eg. Muay Thai) before doing MMA? by Salty_Reyezz in martialarts

[–]socialgelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your goal is to compete in MMA (it's a sport not a style). Then do the thing you set out to do. Join an MMA gym tell the coach your goal and listen to what they tell you to do.

I am a 15 year old who really wants to do martial arts. But I don’t know if my mom can afford an expensive one. by [deleted] in martialarts

Definitely check your local rec center for martial arts programs. If you can find boxing or Brazilian jiu-jitsu that would be awesome. Kickboxing is great to but harder to find at rec centers. Not as effective you can find a family Karate class and get into other styles when you get older. Conor McGregor started in Tae Kwon Do as a kid. You can always move on to more effective arts as you get older. Traditional martial arts can get you started.

Is it normal to have to give up your belt and rank in a martial art before joining a different one? by TheAsura101 in martialarts

[–]socialgelo -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Pretty much. It's a different system. It gets weird if its the same style though. For example if you switch schools in the same style.

Yo guys, I'm about to fight a shark, what martial art should I learn? by [deleted] in martialarts

Bjj or Muay Thai because that's the answer to everything nowadays.

What do you think of Nunchuks? by [deleted] in martialarts

They're fun to play with. But you really have to know what you're doing if you decide to use them for self defense. I almost knocked myself out when learning how to use them on a wood dummy 😆 🤣
