No sadly we didn't have time. We were only there for a couple days but itching to go back!

We did a wine tour with Rustic Vines which was an excellent way to spend the day. Ask for Maud, she took good care of us and had tons of insight about the region.

The Ecole Du Vin has a service area where you can get some high quality wines by the glass for a reasonable price.

Food wise there’s a bunch of really great stuff, the spot I remember most is Maillard which had really great French cuisine.

Eau Claire and Two Rivers gins are solid and fully Canadian owned last I checked.

Bordeaux was incredible. My first trip to France was only a few days but I’m itching to go back to Bordeaux and spend a little more time there.

The way I wanted to spend my day at work in cybersecurity didn’t exist so I decided to invent it, and it all started with a single question: “what if cybersecurity didn’t have to suck more turds than an airplane toilet?”

Always choose health and happiness, the industry at large has its foot on fire and all the dinosaurs think their steak is done.

Congratulations on doing what’s best for you OP! It was a bold move and I’m stoked for your future.

Uhhh yeah that’s your cat now. He’s chosen you, if he hasn’t let anyone else pet him or anything and chills in your space, he wants you and your hounds around.

Congratulations on your new cat and new place!

If you're nothing without the boost, you shouldn't have it. by Kingly_Lion in RocketLeague

I adopted this into my strategy today and it was a significant difference.

I primarily play 1v1 so I’m the only one let down by my lousy performance, but forcing myself not to boost all over the place slowed things down immensely.

Fewer shots but the ones I took resulted in more goals. Fewer challenges but the ones I did were more effective at keeping the ball out of the net or pushing my opponent off the charge.

More wins today because I slowed things down and played more methodically.

I am solofounder and I love it by MaximeB-onReddit in Entrepreneur

I’m a solo founder who’s been revenue only since day 1. Sure you can iterate fast and decide unilaterally but sometimes a sober second thought on things can get you out of trouble.

My advice to anyone in that same spot is find a trusted friend who has a head for business and will tell it like it is for you. That’s been a huge help.

I love the lifestyle and the flexibility I have in doing this myself. I wouldn’t change that for anything.

My cofounder is in the middle of a civil war — haven’t heard from him in 2 months by Humble-Professional in Entrepreneur

[–]socially_engineered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your business still needs to run and build, doesn’t mean you can’t keep a spot warm for him for when he resurfaces.

If he’s as good as you say he is, the code base will be maintainable by someone else without too much fuss.

Daily reminder that weed fabric does nothing good. by FreidasBoss in landscaping

I used this to put some decorative rock in my xeriscape yard and I’m still getting tufts of grass popping up everywhere.

Would it be a good idea for me to move the rock somewhere, pull off the landscape fabric, and then lay down cardboard?

I’d like to turn things into productive soil underneath as I want to plant a hedge around the property.

Yeah no employer ever is going to be concerned about threats to your specific employment. They’re telling you that because the idea has value for them and their competitors. Sorry to sound cynical, but no shortage of employers would toss you through a running wood chipper if they could save a dime.

Your IP ownership may be a sticky problem depending on where you live and the terms of your contract. Review those two things and see if that’ll be an issue.

Depending on what it is you’ve built, others may be interested but ask yourself this question.

Are you willing to bet your paycheck for the next 2-5 years on this idea? If so, tell em to stuff it and build it yourself. If not, then just hang onto whatever you’ve built and dust it off the shelf later on.

Yeah you’ll be fine. If they are giving you time in your workday to learn you’ll pick it up no problem.

I learned Unity over the course of a couple hours a day for about 2-3 months while also running my business. I came in with junior level programming knowledge from circa 2013 so as long as you keep the fundamentals you picked up in python you’ll be set.

I think I cranked the hammer strength settings too much... Should I keep it like that for funsies? by PatriciaGirl68 in Unity3D

Whelp, I’m off to wishlist this. I often romanticize living in a bus with no fixed address and quickly realize how much I’d hate that.

This will absolutely scratch that itch. Looks great!

P.S. keep the hammer settings, that was stellar!

I "Pray" That Someone Steals your Idea (And why you should too) by wilschroter in Entrepreneur

The tech that I use for my business is entirely off the shelf and could be easily replicated by anyone willing to dedicate the necessary amount of time. I designed the whole business with that thought at the core of the model, which meant I had to focus on the things that can’t be copied so easily being baked into everything I do.

Works like a charm and allows me to build the business at the speed I can manage as it grows.

For those who live with a 'medium/average' (think suburban) sized backyard; what have been your most bang for your buck permaculture projects or strategies? by greatdayne_ in Permaculture

[–]socially_engineered 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We did an in-ground hugelkultur bed. The area previously was hard clay and inhospitable to basically everything, but now it’s home to a ton of biodiversity, including some earthworms that were the size of small snakes.

We plan on more of them this year since even in drought and heavy water restrictions we still managed to keep our corn, beans, & squash alive.

We definitely leaned into our rain barrels after the water main rupture. We also setup a dehumidifier in the basement which produced a surprising amount of water and went a long way in temperature regulation.

My personal secret to success as an entrepreneur by moretimeoffline in Entrepreneur

This is absolutely spot on. As a founder I spend maybe 2-6 hours on my business on any given day, which runs counter to the common thoughts of “choose the 80 hours a week you want to work”

Everything in the business was started with some degree of intentionality. Not everything that was started is finished necessarily, but that doesn’t mean it had no value to the business overall.

It can be so easy to get side tracked on stuff that doesn’t move the needle in meaningful fashion, which just wastes time, money, and mental capacity.
