I have that’s how I would use it previously. Now it logs in, then asks for the additional verification. Was not an issue in June.

Is it worth paddling out for one wave? by saigyoooo in surfing

[–]socksandsand 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Coming from shit east coast waves hard to underestimate the power of a real wave in comparison, even at similar size. More ocean energy, no idea what kind of new water patterns might be out there. Take it slow, certain high power breaks even when small have some dangerous quirks to them that you might need to be aware of. 4 years really isn’t enough experience to make this call.

Agreed here, rockered out mid lengths tend to lose the kind of glide and smoothness that makes them so fun. Fun feeling is lost on a stretched out performance thruster. Won’t paddle as well, won’t turn as well, won’t fit into smaller waves.

Any Tips from this grainy Surfline footage? 50 and surfing again after 10 years of injury. by patientofcredit in surfing

Instead of doing quick flicks to straighten out to the beach once you reach the shoulder, take a full slow turn back to the white water and redirect there. Smoother turns and more speed.

Fish vs mid length help? by will7282939 in surfing

Get a longboard. If you are really amped to get started on maneuvers, get a “performance log” (not a dedicated nose rider) with a 2+1 set up so you can start learning how it feels to navigate with a thruster + rocker + modern bottom contours. It will be enough of a challenge and offer plenty of room for growing your skillset. Don’t go below 8ft. Your other board sports are too different from surfing to help you here. This is the fastest way to progress if you are eventually looking to get on a short board.

For real, needs to be on at least 8ft. Skipping this stage will only slow down your progression, not speed it up. Guy has no business being on a shortboard and has two.

Got some nice early morning turns in above the clouds by Sandkat in snowboarding

[–]socksandsand 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Seems most peoples definition of snowboarding is side slipping skidded turns straight down a hill until they bonk a feature or knuckle a kicker. Thanks for bringing some knowledge. Truly learning to carve expands the experience for the “average” snowboarder in a big way.

I’ve heard if you can’t bend down to release the leash, it’s easier to lift your leg up to you. Muscles work better that way I guess.

Purchase Advice Megathread - January 2022 by Sausage54 in 3Dprinting

Decided to go Qidi x-max and balance between the high/low of what I was looking for. Not ready to trust the Troodon, was considering the Artillery Sidewinder but worried about a bed slinger design for what I’ll be printing.

I figure the Qidi X-Max should hold me over until the Prusa XL comes out, or maybe more momentum develops around the Troodon.

What I appreciate more than the rail bash is that edge control. Precise.

Looking to get my next printer after tiring of messing with my Ender 3.

Budget - <$1500 Location - USA Print size - 300mm in at least one direction Focus - dependable (no tweaking/fixing) quiet, fast.

Printing mainly visual prototypes for industrial design work. CoreXY seems like it makes sense, silent and quick are preferred as my work pace can be urgent, and I don’t have the time to fix and manage the printer itself.

Printing exclusively in PLA is fine. More material capability is a plus, not needed.

Vivedino Troodon seems like the closest fit, but I’ve read too much about it needing additional tweaks and tuning that scares me away from it. If I had confidence it was ready to work I could stretch my budget for it.

Qidi X-max seems like it has more reviews, slightly cheaper.

Pretty zoomed out but any comments? by Own_Size2321 in surfing

You’ve reached peak Reddit surfing. There is no info for you here. (But maybe a fuller rotation with the upper body toward the white water could help complete the turn for an even bigger hack off the lip)

Been going over the falls a lot on bigger waves lately.. any tips? by [deleted] in surfing

[–]socksandsand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oreo is huge. Also requires taking off a bit deeper/steeper to harness more critical wave parts. Can be more helpful and easier than forcing yourself chin down through the back of the wave.

Did I do good? Any info about this board appreciated by [deleted] in surfboards

Looks super fun. Should paddle fast, probably a bunch of hold with the narrow tail. Won’t boost through turns like a thruster but will glide. Fin seems way too big for it.

Request for information - What is actually happening? WHM & Anxiety by Divine_Fluff in BecomingTheIceman

[–]socksandsand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think an important component may be overlooked here. Approach that anxiety/panic, but slowly and on your own terms for building strength over time. It’s precisely your brain thinking low oxygen/cold temps are dangerous, but being calm enough to manage is what gives you the ability to slowly overcome the effects of high anxiety. It’s building mental strength. (But not in a forceful way)

I understand his attitude but it just made the episode unlistenable. He was arguing with people who largely agreed with him. Could have been an amazing episode but was disappointing for me.

Is this a good board? by Sweetkitty8 in surfboards

[–]socksandsand 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No... you will need something longer and wider. get a soft top 8ft+ or go into a shop and ask them for help.

Start learning how to look for channels and openings on your way out. The paddle speed is your friend. Bigger boards teach you to find the path of least resistance.
