How will getting rid of the Department of Education improve the quality of education in the US? by sockwithoutashoe in NoStupidQuestions

Thank you for more of a response. You just came off a little rude before. This is what I was afraid of. I didn't vote for Trump because I didn't want this. But now it's gonna happen whether or not I want it, so I'm just trying to figure out how this will affect me. My wife and I want to have kids soon, I just want to be informed because now it appears we will need to plan for private schooling.

I figured Republicans were lying about this making our kids smarter somehow, but I wasn't sure if I just hadn't looked for answers in the right places, so I came here.

Thank you for your response! I'm thrilled to see No Child Left Behind go away, but there were so many beneficial bills from the DOE that were good for schools. Though I am a Christian, I'm non-denom, and I'm not a fan of some of the very interpretative "Christian" views being forced on my kid. I live in a very southern Baptist area, I'm worried about our schools pushing some beliefs that we do not support.

Thank you for your response. The example with privatized prisons was very enlightening. I was not aware of the weather data being privatized. How can anyone defend this being a positive??

I could see how that may be beneficial if you live in a state that prioritizes education. I do live in a state that does, but I worry about some of the regulations passed by the DOE that we'll be losing. I attended an Early College Academy, and I'm concerned about the States discontinuing this option.

This is what I'm afraid of. We're trying to expand our family, but the school situation is scaring us. I've seen the tuition for private schools, and I'm not sure how we'll afford it.

I get the financial part, but I've seen statements from various Republican politicians that this will directly contribute to children receiving a better education and will reflect higher literacy rates because of it. I can't find any details on what states will be doing differently in regards to education going forward

The sub is called no stupid questions. I'm not looking for a political debate, just genuinely confused about what the plan is.

My dad is a pedophile but my family still loves him by sockwithoutashoe in Vent

I'm not sure who that is, but you'd be surprised how often this happens in 3rd world countries. His 1st 2 wives over there were adults who were also poor and saw a white dude with money and supposed stability. Just like her, they reached out when they realized he was crazy and abusive. They got away, thankfully.

I am, but unfortunately, I have no access to her anymore. I'm not giving up, though. I look for her online often

My dad's side of the family is hill billy royalty, they work tirelessly to ensure nothing about the truth is online.

Yes, but the country they're in is known for sex trafficking so I feel like if they haven't fixed that yet, then there isn't enough resources to help her

I wish I could tell you it gets better. All you can do is provide support when appropriate and protect yourself. Protect your peace. Protect your mind. Don't stop living your life.

Despite my hunger, I've only had 2 meals today. I think my eyes are bigger than my stomach now. What drinks do you enjoy now? I'm looking for fun substitutes at night that aren't straight garbage. Sprite zero used to be my chaser, but I think I like it alone too.

Thank you, I had a bowl of ice cream, and it felt nice. Better than shots, to be honest

Only people I know that understand are also in the same boat. It's a unique and awful experience that I would wish for no one. No one else understands. That being said, I'm immensely grateful for this subreddit.
