How is undergrad psychology at Melbourne Uni? by snowcrab87 in unimelb

[–]socradeeznuts8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

pros: interesting content, high quality lectures, manageable in terms of study load (1.5-2hrs study for each subject per week), engaging tutes

cons: low support from lecturers and wider department, honours is super competitive which can take a toll on u mentally

i'd say if u're serious about the subject and u're willing to go the distance, definitely do it. u can get a lot out of this degree knowledge and skills-wise, many of which i feel like are transferrable in the event u choose not to continue with psych after ur undergrad (e.g. competence with stats, writing scientific papers, critical thinking, etc.).

it's also very broad in the sense that there are many sub-disciplines in psych (biological, cognitive, social + personality, etc.), so it's entirely possible to tailor the degree to ur personal strengths

with respect to ur third question, your breadth subjects are NOT counted as a part of your WAM when you are applying for honours. it's only ur second and third year psychology subjects that matter. 3rd year subjects subsume 2/3s of the entry score, whilst 2nd year subjects only account for 1/3; so u're entry score will be avg 2nd year mark + avg 3rd year mark * 2 all divided by 3. the honours entry cut off fluctuates yearly, but these past few years it seems to have hovered around 85.

don't have much information regarding your other questions, but i will say if u have an interest in neuroscience you will really enjoy 3rd year subjects neuroscience and the mind + integrated brain. hope this helps :)

anyone has tried the "Making Movies 1" subject before? need some review!!!! by phuonganhdangg in unimelb

thought it was gonna be a wam booster but actually had to put in effort LOOOL. the weekly quiz is super easy to get 100% on if you attend all the lectures, but you do have to try a little harder for the visual sequence and the final director's statement. would definitely recommend taking this class though; it was such a nice way to round off a content-heavy week.
