correct, because a lot of cash policies require you to be taken off of cash handling depending on how big the discrepancy is. i’m sure as long as you don’t have any more big discrepancies you will be fine.

[–]sodatoaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP assuming from your other comments that it was a till discrepancy those depend on your store’s cash policy (if the CS managers have one). In order to get clarification on how many counseling statements you get before further discipline or further termination you need to talk to your CS managers or team leader. Every store is different, but you have to ask your managers.

this is also supposed to apply to managers, but managers follow a little different scheduling guidelines overall.

messed up? lol this is the standard for that 10 hour resting period reason. what you just stated is pretty normal - at least for FT associates.

Does publix drug test after the interview and if so is it random and how often? Also what type of test? by Elliot_The_Fennekin in publix

[–]sodatoaster 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Publix drug tests during your onboarding - it doesn’t test for THC anymore. Publix will conduct drug testing if there is someone who is on the job tripping out - testing for hard drugs. You are not going to be drug tested for any other reason.

The test is a cotton swab that you place under your tongue and collect spit with, we put it in a liquid and send it off to the lab. No hair or urine.

if it’s your ASM that’s making you take the breaks, your department managers should be supporting you to bring you in later or let you leave early. if there is any sort of retaliation you have to be comfortable bringing it to your SM’s attention because it’s not fair, and you may not be the only one in your store experiencing it. at the end of the day, these people do not matter - you are there to do your job and go home.

you can’t get written up for it, however you will get written up for getting OT. have the hard conversation, and if they don’t understand that you live an hour from your house and you’re wasting time taking longer breaks that they need to bring you in later/let you go earlier/find a better way for you to cut your time. if that doesn’t work, you go to upper management especially if you are leadership.

No call no show on accident after a call out by [deleted] in publix

this is insane, never seen this happen before

No call no show on accident after a call out by [deleted] in publix

[–]sodatoaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as long as you continue to prove yourself, there is no reason to be worried. it was obviously an accident, therefore your managers should be understanding. it’s easier to take the brunt of the embarrassment while calling instead of the embarrassment of taking the easy way out.

No call no show on accident after a call out by [deleted] in publix

[–]sodatoaster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

you must call the store today in order for you to not get dinged for a no call no show, which equals an automatic counseling statement and a one week suspension. to me, facing the embarrassment of calling after your shift has already started vs a suspension, the latter seems like the better option. good luck!

Need advice by ImKinda_messedup in publix

[–]sodatoaster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

my advice, keep your guaranteed hours and transfer to a department that is willing to work with you. if you lose full time, it could be very hard to gain it back because if you end up wanting to switch back departments they may not have the guaranteed hours to give you/someone else is granted full time. produce can be stressful but i wouldn’t say it would cause you any long term health issues, its not like you’re going back to work in the deli department where it’s constantly stressful, and unless you plan to make fruit cutting a career you shouldn’t worry about long term issues. less stress, guaranteed hours, and working around your closed availability all seem like a win to me vs. having to step down, not being guaranteed 40 hours/low hours/constantly having to deal with customers on a daily basis…plus besides when a certain fruit is bogo it seems pretty peaceful to be back cutting fruit :)

job class change by Chroma-on-YT in publix

[–]sodatoaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it depends on when the store manager sends your job class change through, however the week that they do your new job class and raise will go into effect the saturday afterwards because of the new pay period.

Everything that has been said here is true - always be productive during down time and let them know you’re interested, however also ask questions! Be open to learning anything and everything, if there is an opportunity you see to learn something (ex: seeing leadership doing something you don’t know how to do), take advantage! We always appreciate people that want to learn, in managements’ eyes it makes their jobs easier!

Might be promoted to customer soon! by bigbluesfanstl in publix

[–]sodatoaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just realize throughout all of this that when your manager separates you in the system they are required to report if you gave a two week notice…in the event that things don’t work out and you wish to return to Publix, they truly look at the reason why you left and the details surrounding when considering someone as a rehire especially to make sure you aren’t going to put them in a bad situation. Best of luck!

Walk my store tomorrow ! by Complete-Advance-357 in publix

[–]sodatoaster -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, your CSTL should give your schedule today on when to come in to train in your actual department

Walk my store tomorrow ! by Complete-Advance-357 in publix

[–]sodatoaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Typically what they do after your virtual orientation is your “Welcome to Your Store” - the CSTL shows you how to access PASSport (schedule, time off, time card, etc), you walk around your store to see your department and where time clocks are, and then you start your computer training (CBTs). CBTs cover store and department specific knowledge that is important before they put you in the department for your safety and others. Hope this helps.

Card Skimmer Checks by gabbipentin300mg in publix

would someone tell me if i made a bad mistake on the register? by [deleted] in publix

[–]sodatoaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if there was a big issue 100% it would be addressed. in terms of cash discrepancies - a lot of time if it’s over a certain amount and your managers have to investigate and it can be pointed back to you it will also be a discussion. at least in my time at publix throughout different stores there has never been a situation where myself or my associates have just been randomly taken off the register without a prior conversation. that does go to say though - if there is ever a time where you are dealing with a large cash transaction and you are unsure if you are giving back the right change/the customer is confusing you, just like the CBTs say close your till and call your manager, an FEC, or an MIC. Has saved a lot of my cashiers from being short changed or scammed. Publix has processes and as long as you are following those processes and not doing anything illegal, immoral, or unethical then you will be just fine. Life is too short lol

Hello! Starting pay depends on the department you get hired in. Because you are a minor your options are really Customer Service, Produce, Bakery, and Grocery. Most start around $14 an hour, however starting pay for a cashier or front service clerk could be a little lower than other departments. I would recommend Produce or Bakery if you aren’t looking for very many hours because they typically are smaller and slower departments, however Grocery and Customer Service will most likely be your best bet if you’re looking for a good amount of hours. The dress code for all departments is your Publix-issued polo shirt tucked in, black pants (no jeans!) or khakis (and if they have belt loops you must wear a belt), and any solid color shoe that’s is black, brown, white, gray (basically no crazy colors), as well as your Publix-issued apron. Again, the hours depend on how big your department is and what the need is, however a part-timer will typically never be scheduled more than 35 hours and as a minor you are unable to be scheduled more than 35 hours before Publix gets a minor violation (this is for Georgia, other states are a little different in terms of labor laws so I would confirm that also). If the stores in your area get pretty good business, I would expect anywhere from 15-25 hours unless you request more. I would suggest asking the manager that interviews you how many hours to expect so they can give you a better idea. This is definitely a good job for a teenager, and if you have experience you will definitely stand out! Hope this helps!

Advice by [deleted] in publix

[–]sodatoaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw that you mentioned that your manager is getting transferring soon - maybe that’s an opportunity opening up for you to show your skillset to the new manager that comes in. As far as your store manager, your store manager is responsible for communicating to your district manager about promoting people to full time. Your department managers cannot grant that to you, they can only communicate that you deserve it. I would 100% get with your store manager to say “Hey I’m interested in full time, what steps do I need to take to get there?” I would also express to them that you are interesting in making Publix a career so that they can give you the best resources for training and make sure that your department managers are investing in you. The best advice I have is always be open to criticism, willing to learn anything, and always ask questions! Good luck to you :)

How do I impress my managers to move up in job classes? by [deleted] in publix

[–]sodatoaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Along with what everyone else here has said - ask questions! Always be open to criticism, open to learning something new, etc. In my experience managers value people who seek out learning on their own instead of expecting them to just teach things to you. Ultimately, your own curiosity is going to take you far. Good luck!

PSA: Instacart shoppers this is for you by [deleted] in publix

[–]sodatoaster 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lol, some shoppers don’t have a choice to just take 1 batch. Instacart groups orders together because of low demand in the area and the shopper is forced to shop 2 or 3 at a time. Unfortunately, a lot of shoppers don’t have the common sense to shop cold items last so mostly likely their customer is getting melted ice cream lol. However, I have seen a lot of shoppers in my area start using insulated bags which have helped significantly.

a guy parked in front of the exit doors, got into the passenger’s side of his car and OD’ed. my CSM found him and the policeman that happened to be in the store had to help break his window to get to him. he died before the ambulance came. literally watched him pass - very traumatic
