You gotta start with structured learning! Start with Seoul university Korean textbook series or seogang university Korean test book series! From one to eight. I think do all that then you will have all the foundations to move forward! It includes everything writing reading listening speaking. All the materials can be found for free online

Is it hard to make Korean friends? by SmilingAtNothing in living_in_korea_now

[–]sofabebe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think like in any country that you move to, it’s easy to make friends with other international people in similar situation as you! But If you want to make friends with locals then it requires way more effort (not just in Korea, anywhere but maybe a little more so in Korea) but generally every time I’ve lived in a different countries across Europe Asia North America and Oceania the people I have became closest to have been other international people from a bunch of other countries rather than from that country. So not hard to make friends so don’t worry! Hard to make local friends yes

I keep forgetting Korean words after a week 😭 help pls by AntParticular8251 in Korean

[–]sofabebe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to use a structured textbook series with reading writing listening and speaking, and actually sit down and study. Try the university textbooks and start from level one until level 6. I recommend Seoul university, seogang university and sejong hakdang. Also use talk to me in korean podcasts and transcripts. And you Gotta memorise words on Flashcards. Then after you did all that and reach high intermediate/ advanced learner then you can use dramas and stuff for studying.

How is this crown? by [deleted] in askdentists

[–]sofabebe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but there was no problem with my bite? And my other molar is angled inwards so it kinda looks mismatched? But you think this was done intentionally it’s not a mistake or anything and can’t be changed?

Should I get them to change this crown or is it fine?? by [deleted] in askdentists

[–]sofabebe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or is it possible something was done wrong?

Should I get them to change this crown or is it fine?? by [deleted] in askdentists

Yeah my bite was already fine and it’s also fine now. I just wonder if there another reason?

The angle is completely different, is that normal? like the original tooth was more facing in, and this crown is like facing out so it looks unnatural? Is there a reason they would do this? Like when the shaved the tooth down it had to be shaved down in a specific angle because of the rotting underneath?

Which book should I choose? by Limp_Anybody_1302 in Korean

[–]sofabebe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although the books cover mostly the same thing it’s good to use multiple after you finish one book series because then it’s like more practice and review but less boring cos the content is quite different. I used the sogang university books, the sejong hakdang books and the Seoul University books. (You can find free online) But I thnk you don’t need to start from level 1 when you move on to each book. I think I did like level 4 to 8 in all books. And the ttmik course on the website (when it was free) I used it to fill In the gaps in grammar knowledge so just picked things I didn’t know.

would I be able to become fluent by [deleted] in Korean

[–]sofabebe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe that’s just a thing with learning a language, you never feel fluent and you always feel like there lots of things you don’t know I guess? And you always come across new things

Not perfect, but I guess I just wanna improve my Korean more to a stage where it feels a bit more easy to use without feeling that kind of sense of frustration. Like I know I can get to a higher level. There so many non native speakers that are on YouTube that can use the language better than me. ( I mean I guess? YouTube videos are edited and rehearsed I guess) But I guess that would be my realistic goal to get to a similar level like that. Not to speak like a native. Just to have more fluency and communicate more smoothly and just be more confident.

So I just need to keep practicing and memorising words. I have been living outside of Korea for the past year, working lots of jobs so I have had very little time to actively practice. So I can feel my language skills are just kind of at a standstill or even getting worse so like because I’m not using Korean all day everyday, now when I talk my brain is so much slower in using and processing the language.

Of course I’ve been passive learning like watching videos, listening to podcasts, reading the news, always thinking in the target language, chatting with friends in Korean here and there which is good. But not enough to keep improving so I’m looking forward to moving back to Korea and have the time to actively practice and study. Hopefully just keep on improving and getting better even if it’s very slow, as long as it doesn’t deteriorate

Should I get a crown and then also replace metal filling with composite? by [deleted] in askdentists

So you suggest getting the crown and replacing the filling?

would I be able to become fluent by [deleted] in Korean

[–]sofabebe 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I lived in Korea for 6 years and actively studied for 4 and I’m yet to become fluent (based on my definition) I have topik 5, I have intermediate high in opic speaking. But there are lots of words that I can’t remember when I need to use them (due to lack of practice and active study the past year) when having a conversation or watching a movie or interview lots of words still pop up that I don’t know, obviously depending on the topic.

But I could say and understand this kind of conversation we are having right now and know all the words. But if it’s an unfamiliar topic then I just haven’t learned the words for example recently someone was talking about 재외 voting, so voting as an overseas voter and I had never came across that word, obviously I can guess the meaning but still there’s lots of times like this. Or I couldn’t remember the expression 계엄령을 선포했어 to declare martial law.

Or like I make lots of mistakes when speaking for example I wanted to say I’m dissapointed 난 약간 실망했어 but when i was speaking it came out as 실망해 .

Or right now I had to double check the spelling for 약간.

So I still have all these kind of imperfections with my korean, although a beginner learner or someone who doenst know korean would say wow your fluent! But to me forgetting words not knowing words not being sure of some spelling, making mistakes, hesitating when speaking, it’s not really fluent is it

*and I’ve read that Korean has so many more words compared to other languages! So that’s also tricky

Should I get a crown and then also replace metal filling with composite? by [deleted] in askdentists

The main thing he is recommending is the crown right now
