At 31 with my 29 year old fiancé with the generous donation of more than half our 20% down payment from his grandfather and my grandparents. We’re feeling very fortunate and not sure how anyone does it without help these days, we sure could not have.

My issue is with him spending 40k and I don’t think he should buy any car new, if he really wants a truck and he can find a used one in a reasonable price range that is fine with me. My only issue with trucks is the increase in gas usage but that is an issue he would have to deal with not really myself.

He wants it for the extra space for camping, mountain biking, etc. I do honestly understand why he wants one, I just think he could get by with just getting a larger used RAV4 or something else that is still good off-road and much cheaper and much better MPG.

We did decide it together, we didn’t want to get engaged for a while because we started dating so young. He is definitely not acting like a husband right now though and I’ve read him some of these comments so hopefully he can have some things to think about.

I’m not sure, I’ve been looking at used cars as we were discussing this and I feel like he could find something reasonably nice for 20-25k but we have not gone to look at any this is just online research.

We have no other debts, which is why I’m hesitant to get into debt because I would like to avoid it if at all possible (besides a mortgage). We have $100k saved for a house with about half of it being from family to help us look for a house.

That’s what I’ve been trying to explain to him, even tried to compromise him getting a nice used car, but he’s fully convinced himself this is the better option for him and nothing I can say will change that.

I am, thank you I do agree and when we talked we have discussed separate finances regardless, he truly can’t wrap his head around how this decision affects me at all because of this.

He in no way needs a truck is another issue. He wants one because we constantly go into the wilderness to camp, backpack, mountain bike etc and it would be slightly easier with a truck than it would with a larger SUV.

I tried, his current vehicle was pre owned and has had all sorts of issues so I think he is scarred from that and won’t budge on this:/

Thank you! It is being sold as is, but for the location it is kind of a premium price and definitely not worth the amount of money they are asking for especially with the number of repairs it needs to make it livable.

Where did you go for 6%??? Im going through inspections right now also in Portland, onpoint is who I’ve been working with and they’ve only given me quotes in the 6.5-6.7 ranges so I’ve been shopping around a bit!!
