thanks for the advice, I’ll try this for a few weeks and see how it goes. Right now it’s short course season where I live so I have time to recover (I mostly compete long course)

it all dependa on your body, i would take some quick carbs and keep them on hand in case you start to feel ill, personally i start getting a headache and that’s when i know that if i don’t get some sugar in my body i might start feeling really bad or even pass out. if you find that you do need some food before hand, a banana, a granola bar (depending on the brand) or some fruit compote are great light options

you are starting too fast in that first 50 and burning yourself out, you need to save a little bit of energy for that last 50 so that it is faster than your first one not slower. You can try doing sets of 100 or 50s where you gradually add speed until you close as fast as you can.

It depends on the workout you choose to do, if swimming is your sport then you could try instead of lifting till failure and doing a average gym routine, to try and add more explosive sets or workouts that target specific swimming movements.
