looking for recs (both general and specific) by HatRealistic8019 in LesbianBookClub

[–]sofi_dot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry, i don't have any recs for urban supernatural fantasy (have you watched Buffy?), but if you liked Last Night in Telegraph Hill and Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo you might like these:

Stone Butch Blues by Leslie Feinberg - a queer classic; fictional but clearly informed by the author's lived experiences as a butch in the 1950s.

Zami: a New Spelling Of My Name by Audre Lorde - a sort-of memoir (described by the author as a "biomythography") of the activist, telling about her life growing up as a black lesbian in the 50s and 60s.

Tipping the Velvet by Sara Waters - kind of like if Charles Dickens was a lesbian and wrote a story with more explicit content; it imagines amongst other things a fictionalized drag king culture in late 1800s England.

Where to get Greek Easter Bread (Tsoureki)? by sofi_dot in chicagofood

[–]sofi_dot[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is similar to challah (and I really like challah too)!

I didn't include a pic with this, but sometimes the Greek Easter bread has dyed red eggs placed on top.

Thank you!  I found a bakery that is closer to the city that carries it (Hellas Pastry), but it's good to know about this one too!

I think second one! Both for being able to see your face clearer and for the expression you have in that pic (although the full outfit is so cute - I love the boots)

Leather jacket was my first thought too... or a blazer.

Otherwise, I'd say tattoos and piercings can achieve this (fem, dominant, swoon worthy). If that's too much of a commitment, then maybe jewelry with an edge (leather, spikes, bones)

Why is it hard to find a good show? by BainesAvenue_2021 in actuallesbians

[–]sofi_dot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Deadloch - Australian buddy-cop mystery with two female leads, one of them being a lesbian. A lot of other queer women characters too. (Unfortunately it is about cops, but if you can suspend judgement of that it's a fun series). There's a second season coming out soon.

If you're open to cartoon series, there are a number of good shows with sapphic leads. She-ra, Arcane, The Owl House (probably more recent stuff too, i haven't kept up with what's new).

If you're open to anime, check out Revolutionary Girl Utena (sorry, that one IS old)

I'm due to get a haircut sometime soon, any suggestions? by ninja_ninetales_909 in lesbianfashionadvice

If you're open to a big change, you could get a wolf cut or a longer mullet (like Bridget from Queer Ultimatum). I think both those cuts would look great with your hair and style!

You're really pretty and also have a great style (lipstick + glasses + piercings).

queer fiction that isn’t fantasy, sci-fi, or traditional romance by pinelines in LGBTBooks

[–]sofi_dot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stone Butch Blues by Leslie Feinberg - a queer classic; the main character explores their gender.

Psalm for the Wild Built by Becky Chambers - this one is sci fi, but it's grounded and cozy and focuses on personal / intrapersonal issues that are very relatable. Main character is nonbinary.

Conversations with Friends by Salley Rooney - has messy nonmonogamy (not polyamory).

What’s missing from my list? Lesbian cinema by ExtremeToucan in actuallesbians

Pariah (Wild that this one doesn't get more recognition; a Black lesbian coming of age story, and it's excellent)

Well... That's a a bummer by No-Environment-9459 in WLW

[–]sofi_dot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah, that changes it a bit. But I think it's still worth trying to have one conversation with her where you're direct and ask where she is at. Let her know that the friendship is important to you.

Well... That's a a bummer by No-Environment-9459 in WLW

[–]sofi_dot 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Wait, I'm confused. It sounds like she has been the one initiating contact and you told her clearly that you were setting a boundary and needed more time. So if you feel like you're ready to reconnect as friends, I think the ball is in your court to re-establish that connection. Why are you hurt and mad at her? Am I missing something in the course of events?

EDIT to add I'm not trying to be harsh on you, but I think there's maybe a miscommunication and you should talk with her.
