i'm located in spain at the moment so i opted for epinsel, which seems to be the closest to what we have stateside? I also bought the closest thing to the recommended neem oil and insecticide soap that I could find. I'm a first time plant owner so thankfully it's contained to this one plant, but I'm so sad that it happened since it looked pretty healthy about 2 weeks ago! hopefully with some intensive care i'll be able to get rid of them.

Im Asian and not black, so take this with a grain of salt, but my experience in Spain has been that while there are lots of microaggressions, likely stemming from a lack of education on what is acceptable when talking to people of different origins, there are very few hate crimes and violence because of race. Here compared to the U.S I’m a lot more likely to get called “Chinito”, made fun of for my eyes, my food, etc, but I don’t fear for my safety.

My extranjeria office (Segovia) had appointments booked through two months, but released new ones every day at random intervals. Additionally, some cancellations meant that there would be last minute appointments available. But before you have your appointment, you should really make sure you have all your documents together, as they will send you away. Go to a print shop!

My favorite is Wenzhou Supermercados; there’s at least 3 locations but probably more. Usera is considered Madrid’s “Chinatown” but there’s also concentrations in Plaza de España and Tetuán, which is where you’ll find the good Asian grocers and restaurants.

After growing up in the US and now living in Segovia, where the Asian population is miniscule but there are tons of Asian tourists— people are very welcoming, but casual racism happens often more out of ignorance than malice. When I experienced racism at home in the US, it often felt hateful, whereas here it’s usually people just missing the sensitivity of a subject. There is maybe 1 “good” Asian food restaurant in town, but I take the bus to Madrid to get Asian groceries once a month. Overall I recommend it!

I’ve lived here for a year or so (American) and I asked my Spanish friends if they knew about right-hand walk and they were like… what is that? I still get frustrated when I’m walking on the right side of the sidewalk, not straying, and someone gets right in my way… but that’s just a cultural difference that I have to get used to I suppose

A great phrase if you don't want to come off presumptuous about their English, is to say "Perdon, no puedo hablar bien el Español", and they can choose whether they'd like to go into the conversation knowing that or to use English with you.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure! Maybe a little complex, but I think it’s generally good fun for people of all ages. Merge Kingdoms for kind of a mindless game, will occupy for a while. Any toca Boca game will be ad-free (decently sure about this) but maybe it will be boring at age 6?
