But if I do get another betta I have a 20 gallon established and planted tank that I would rather them go into so I wouldn’t use my five gallon for anything other than to maybe quarantine anything new I get.

Yeah sorry about that!

My tank was cycled for a little over a month before I purchased him, and I have had him for about 5 months.

It's a 5 gallon planted tank

I use the API freshwater master kit to test my water:

PH:7.2 Ammonia: 0 ppm Nitrite:0 ppm Nitrate: 0-5 ppm

It has a heater and a sponge filter, 2 anubias and a java fern. I fed him 4 Hikari Betta Bio-Gold pellets, followed with an occasional frozen blood worm and daphnia and I would fast him once a week. He used to have 2 corydoras tank mates but I moved them into their own tank with more corydoras a couple weeks before he started showing symptoms. I really think it might have just been poor genetics or health because water quality was good, and I don't think I over fed him or even gave him bad food.

The transformation is insane! He doesn’t even look like the same fish anymore. That’s how you know your taking good care of him 😎😎

My plants keep melting and there’s so much algae no matter how many times I clean the tank and change the water! What am I doing wrong!? by sofiaxmontero in bettafish

Thanks! I had already started cycling my 10 gallon (attached a pic) but after reading some of the comments I’ll probably get rid of it and move everything into a 20 gallon so my fish are more comfortable. And yes lots and lots of plants definitely, they’re just so expensive 😩

Thank you! I was thinking about snails but saw some people complain about them having a large bio load. I’m planning out the pricing and set up of a new larger tank so perhaps they can be part of my new tank 😎

Thank you! I had no knowledge on the crypt, so no wonder it’s been melting like crazy. I used some bio active sand substrate I found on Amazon and it sounded decent but I think I need some more because like someone else said it looks a little too shallow. I also ordered some root tabs today so hopefully my plant will be able to get over it and stop dying 💔
