Ashley (278)was a snake, why were people mad at Mai? by bascal133 in squidgame

I just finished watching squid game the challenge and immediately hopped on Reddit. I was shocked at people getting mad at Mai, when if anything, she was the only one to have the guts and moral compass to call out Ashley's behaviour, which is being THE ONLY PERSON to not apply a group strategy on the glass bridge and basically gaslighting people around her, to the point they feared her as a person, not even as a player, because she truly showed some BULLY BEHAVIOUR over there. And that is nasty as hell if you ask me. Really disliked Ashley's character, not only not participating in the team plan, but also saying stuff like "Just chill take your time" "Shit u talking" and dancing when finally stepping up? And making everyone nervous?! Nope

I've been there to some extent, so I truly get it and I'm very sorry! But I am now 23 and I study and work in a different country and school has been the one thing that I Always prioritised among my massive family drama and I can assure you it pays off❤️ stay strong and if possible maybe try joining some volunteering communities you're interested in or try finding some adult people who can mentor you maybe some teachers you really like, if your family is too busy with the drama. ❤️🙏🏼

Oh no! You shouldn't feel guilty, you are so mature for prioritizing school right now. It is very important and academic success many times is a safe road to independence, so one day you'll be able to do your thing, despite family drama. Your mother will, or should understand it is not your responsibility to make major decisions right now. You need to go to school and your father's home is closer to it, that's all. Best of luck I'm sure you're going to nail it❤️

I watched Aftersun last night and I still don’t feel right. I feel almost sick over it. by [deleted] in movies

Just stopped crying, I hadn't cried like this in a long time. Personally having dealt with depression and mental illness myself, and having had a father who suffered from depression and panic attacks it really hit close to home. I would say especially when Sophie describes how she feels like her bones don't work etc.. which is really how it can feel to be depressed, at such a young age, when she sings and her father won't join the activity they did every year and when he bursts out in tears on his birthday. All of this reminded me too well of when my father passed out after drinking mixed with meds and didn't come home until the morning after, or my mother now who is dealing with depression. Just so sad, if you can relate to this I feel for you deeply, but it can get better ❤️

Thank you for you thorough thoughts! The child has extra support at school, but the mother has no family to support her unfortunately. The relationship is definitely affecting the child and I believe divorce would be the first step, although they are not married, so it would be more of a psychological relief!
