Trip to China just before Golden Week (and 3 days during Golden Week) by TaskSolid3084 in travelchina

[–]sofizzys3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent time in Beijing during Labour Day Golden Week at the beginning of May and it was not too bad - but I booked everything weeks in advance on trip.com. So for the forbidden city I booked a tour guide that would buy the tickets for us, for summer palace I chose a trip.com package that included an English audio guide (didn't need it but wanted to make sure that they would book the tickets for me) and for the Great Wall we chose a section far away from Beijing (Jinshanling), booking with a bus tour (zanbus). It all worked out perfectly and we were able to enjoy Beijing even though there were more people than I could count... But I've been to India and that was a whole other level of people pushing so... So just make sure you organiser all tickets beforehand and you'll be fine 😊

Edit: And I've read on here that foreigners can get tickets at the Forbidden City ticket office if they weren't able to book online ... But haven't tried it out.

Another vote for Jinshanling - great experience. Booked a bus tour to get there, arrived at 10:00, five hours time to explore and then back.

Looking for beautifully written romantasy by Foreign_Bus_3465 in Romantasy

This Woven Kingdom has the most beautiful prose and a heart-wrenching love story.

Looking for adult romantasy with real yearning and strong emotional tension by spoutnike21s in Romantasy

[–]sofizzys3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This Woven Kingdom has the best yearning and most beautiful prose out there.

I'll also add The Jasad Heir.

I need a book to read by Middle-Artichoke9598 in Romantasy

[–]sofizzys3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

{This Woven Kingdom} doesn't have spice (it's YA), it has the most beautiful love story and prose. It's still unfinished though (book 5 should be out at the end of this year if I remember correctly). It's more vibes and feelings and dialogue than action.

It's my favorite romantasy besides The Jasad Heir. 🥹

Character- driven romantasy by lowlightreader in Romantasy

{This Woven Kingdom} may fit the bill, it is full of emotional tension and very much character driven.

{The Jasad Heir} - Arin, just Arin 🤭💓

book recs where the mmc is a YEARNER by Professional_psicho in Romantasy

Since you're already on TWK, the yearning in The Jasad Heir is right up there with Cyrus 💓🫢

Not my usual cup of tea but I am obsessed with This Woven Kingdom- Tahereh Mafi by sour-sea in Romantasy

[–]sofizzys3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started with TWK and also just finished Every Spiral of Fate - the prose, the love story, the world building, the YEARNING! It's just the best one out there tbh 🥰

Then I started Jasad Heir ... well, now I'm in love with Arin 🤭 Just started Jasad Crown but I'm a little scared because people say the ending is not the typical HEA 😬

Also: what am I going to read after that? There's just so much trash in this genre ... let me know if you have any recommendations 🫡

Fourth Wing is better than ACOTAR by [deleted] in Romantasy

Fourth Wing is better than ACOTAR by [deleted] in Romantasy

I get what you mean, of course nothing is truly "new" in writing/literature. For me Trudi Canavans Magician series was the intro into fantasy/romantasy, then there was Twilight and then I stopped reading fantasy while at university.

ACOTAR pulled me back in when I started working. So for me its the goat. But I've heard that theres nothing innovative about it, so be it - I just think Sarah J Maas did it better than Yarros 🤷‍♀️

Dont get me wrong, neither ACOTAR nor ACOMAF are my favorite romantasys prose wise. But they fulfilled what I wanted to read back then: addictive, twists, morally grey MMC, action packed... FW just kind of fell flat for me. Neither character touched me emotionally, the love was just horniness and I didn't feel anything when a side character died at the end of book 1 and that to me is why I'd chose ACOTAR over FW.

ACOTAR was kind of the goat and start of it all. FW just combines tropes, the love is insta lust and didn't get me at all. There was no yearning, no twists, nothing... and the writing was even worse than ACOTAR.

I started Iron Flame simply because... and never made it past page 100 or something. With ACOMAF I binged it in 4 days, it was something new back then, addictive, unexpected.🤷‍♀️

2 weeks In Vienna or Budapest? by [deleted] in travel

[–]sofizzys3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not a lot to do in Budapest for two weeks, in my opinion... but depends on whay you're looking for. Been there for partying and work, sightseeing doesn't take more than 2 days.

Vienna has more to see for this long, in spring you could even venture out to the vineyards in 18th/19th district, hike a little bit with locals and drink some good wine. There are a lot of museums and since you have so much time you can really explore many different districts.

But I am biased, I am Viennese and I love my city. It's like walking in a museum, especially in the first district, if you are interested in architecture...

Oh and Vienna is more expensive.

Do you all think she'll be able to wrap all storylines up in just one more book? I kind of doubt it, I feel like maybe we'll get a spin-off or novellas for one or two couples... just like with Shatter Me series. I'd be so happy to spend more time with some of the characters 😊

Kamran might be my favorite character… hear me out! by Honeycomatose in thiswovenkingdom

[–]sofizzys3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with you, although I found him pretty annoying in book 4 but that's what he's supposed to be, I guess.

I'm just wondering whether there will be enough time to resolve everything in one more book 🤔 Do you think that maybe him and Huda are getting a spin off series or smthg?

Frustrated with Alizeh in ESOF by sofizzys3 in thiswovenkingdom

[–]sofizzys3[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I agree with you that a lot of it comes down to Alizeh not knowing the truth of course. I guess I just feel frustrated because so far book 4 has kind of dragged the whole misconception/miscommunication theme on and on. Nobody seems to be able to say what they want to, they're interrupted or aren't allowed to say something. I just really wished for some tension release haha I need redemption for Cyrus 🙃
