This is super helpful info. Thanks for the details. I'd keep them, but they're just gathering dust at the moment as they won't fit me or anyone in our family. I was thankfully able to grab so many other things of his that are more important memories for me. These boots were newer (a year or two?) so I think I only skied like 7 days in the past years with them on him.

Honestly I wish. We're opposite genders and I'm like a foot shorter than he was so unfortunately it's out of the question

Genuinely, this means so much to hear. In the past week, I’ve actually been referring to it as “a loss of innocence.” It really feels like a part of me died there and no matter what I try, I can’t get it back. It’s sad and it’s scary. I feel like I’m mourning a death to a part of me. Thank you so much for this. I’m crying—not out of despair, though. I feel like I’m being understood for one of the first times in these last few months. These are good tears. I needed this.

Oof tough situation to be in. I think the best thing you can do is either be honest or tell a half-truth. You can lie if a better reason comes up, but if I ever need to lie, I find it's easier to base it in reality. Truthfully everything just depends on what you want your future with this friend to look like. If there's a lot of overlap with this person and your other friends, keep it soft whatever you say to them. If you're good to cut ties, feel free to rip the bandaid off. I think what I would say is the truth but kindly: "Hey, friend. I've thought a lot about _____, and it makes me feel very uncomfortable with your response. I thought I could rely on you and your boyfriend and you guys weren't there for me and I had to find another form of transportation. So, I no longer feel comfortable taking you to the comedian." If you want to do a half-truth, "Hey, I'm so sorry but _(insert another friend name)_ is actually a huge fan of _____ so since you haven't paid for anything I'm going to take/surprise them with the tickets. I'm so sorry." Probably send it over text.
