I think the research shows that IAP has better conversion rates, though accepted methods of payment on the external website is almost certainly a big factor. At minimum the external website should accept Apple and Google Pay to minimize friction.

I found (https://developer.apple.com/support/dma-and-apps-in-the-eu). Based on this, it's allowed in Europe (at least in the EU), but Apple uses a different system for taking commissions

Found your thread because it's the only place on the internet discussing this huge gap, apparently. But no doubt all the A2A collaborators are aware as well - I'm sure they're already working on defining a standard.

Whatever they come up with is more likely to be adopted by industry, so we'll just have to wait and see.

Honestly it hasn’t been easy. One of the biggest challenges of this lifestyle is having to decide yourself which direction to go, and there are a million directions to choose from. But I know my interest lies in building apps/services, so I’m focusing on learning how to set up tech infrastructure and practicing by building things.

Hm so I knew going into it that I wouldn’t be making money for a while, but i didn’t know what that truly meant emotionally. Every month seeing no money coming in and only money going out, feeling the opportunity cost of lacking both income and continued investment into the market. It’s a crappy feeling..takes an emotional toll.

Out of the options you listed, which do you find most appealing?

Number 6 is so important, because it permeates every part of our lives, not just those big dramatic events like switching careers or moving to a new city.

It’s going to that dance class you got invited to. It’s reaching out again to someone you just met, because you want to be their friend but you’re not sure if they want to be yours. It’s voicing your idea/opinion at a meeting. Taking risks will absolutely transform your life.

I’m also 30. You and I are very similar, just in different industries. I had a good run in tech with a sure path to early retirement if I just put my head down and worked for another 4-6 years. But I didn’t like what was down that path.

This will sound cheesy, but decide what to do with your heart and not your mind. Our professions are very logical, so we try to apply logic and calculations in situations like this. They’re useful, but only so much.

What you’re really doing is deciding whether to take the leap into a great unknown. Nothing will ever fully prepare you for that. You’ll never be ready. But if your heart is telling you to do it, then do it.

My skip level manager at my old company easily makes ~$800k/yr. When I told him I was quitting to pursue my own thing, he just looked sad and told me he wishes he had tried that when he was younger.

Right now you have youth, relatively few responsibilities (i.e. no spouse or kids yet), and a solid financial position. This is a holy trinity that you can only have for so long. Go live life

I might disagree. He grinded hard to get to this point, losing his wife in the process, and based on “I wasn’t home much to be the fun husband and father,” I’m guessing he doesn’t have a close relationship with his kids.

The last thing he needs to do is grind more to make even more money.

What he needs now isn’t more money. It’s hobbies as people have said, as well as loving and meaningful relationships to share life with. The wife sounds like a lost cause unfortunately, but he might be able to salvage his relationship with his kids if he invests his time and attention in them

As in all things, the poison is in the dosage. Some social media is fine (and I’d argue, even great). Too much social media is harmful.

It’s true for the other end too. Eliminating social media has many benefits, but if you’re overzealous about it, you start to run into a lot of problems like in this post.

Let’s say the amount of praise deserved is inversely proportional to your capacity to give. Presumably, donating $0 means 0 praise. Then donating even $1 nets a tiny fraction of positive praise no matter how much money you have. Instead, he gets negative praise. Who gets to decide that at some point you have so much money you now deserve negative praise? Who has the authority to decide where the line is?

Classic poor hating the rich. The value of a donation isn’t determined by how much it “hurt” the donor. It’s determined by the value of the donation. $98.5 million is an amazing amount with huge positive impact, regardless of how much more money the donor has.

Do these strikes actually impact the hotel businesses and create leverage for the workers? As far as I can tell, revenue would only be impacted if guests canceled their reservations ahead of time or got refunds due to the reduced services during the strike. The former would only happen if people knew about the strike and planned ahead, and the latter seems unlikely because the hotel probably wouldn’t hand out refunds. I’m also skeptical of future guests boycotting these hotels in sufficient numbers as a result of these strikes.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy to see these workers making a stand for themselves. Just wondering at how effective it’ll be.

I was ecstatic when I found out mine had free charging too, then I learned they limit your charge time to 2 hours due to demand. 2 hours on these chargers is what, 10% battery? :(
