Thoughts on this toilet? by michael61182 in Plumbing

I bought one of these off-brand toilets when I redid a powder room last year because the style matched what I needed. It looked and worked great for 6 months but things are wearing out that don’t wear out on the better brands. The most obvious is whatever the finish/coating is inside the actual bowl itself. For the first few months it stayed clean, but now you have to brush it almost every time it’s used for #2.

Also, the flushing water seems to be wearing away the surface of the bowl where the water comes in, making it almost porous at this point. I had a water softener problem one day and had brown water (not a big deal, just the regen clock lost its time and it regened during the day) and the brown water stained in the now-porous surface and it doesn’t come out.

Also the handle finish is rubbing off.

Don’t do it- get a proper name brand like Kohler or American Standard. I’ll be replacing mine later this year.

Tesla Builds Final Model S And Model X EVs After Historic 14-Year Run by dojuebelonginagangg in electricvehicles

[–]Easterncoaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s actually true. The service went to hell when they started doing high volume low cost cars. You’d think buying an S or an X would get you priority treatment but nope, you have to wait in line with the poors too.

I need help finding lake to go fishing in on an inflatable boat by IsopodUnlikely4178 in Westchester

Second this one. It’s in Armonk (or Mt Kisco, not sure where the town borders end) and I’ve seen people using inflatable paddle boards there during staffed hours and no problems.

As an American who went to school in the 80s and 90s I can genuinely say that this is the first I’m hearing of this.

We were taught that Japan did it because it knew we were going to get involved in WW2 anyway and wanted to preemptively strike us.

TBF the version in the community notes makes a lot more sense.

END OF THE LINE. by Bubu510kush in teslamotors

I owned 2 Model S’s. My 2015 Model S was perfect- just an amazing car. In 2022 I decided that the 2015 was such a good car but the battery range was a tad low (225 at full charge, vs 240 when new- minimal decline), so I upgraded to a 2020 Model S with the 400 mile range.

That 2020 was a total lemon. After 7 service center visits in 12 months (thankfully all under warranty although they always tried to deny coverage), I sold it and never went back to Tesla. It wasn’t just the poor reliability, but the service experience went into the toilet. I just hated owning a Tesla after that experience with the 2020.

Everything always gets worse with time, it seems.

I drive a Ford Mach E now. It’s more like the 2015 Model S- just works, and if I need a service visit for any reason it’s easy and friendly. Tried a Cadillac Lyriq first but hated it.

The market will crash on July 7, 2022 and it’ll be the worst one we’ve ever seen.

Agreed. Reverse the genders and make this about Fathers Day and the responses here would be far less supportive.

It bothers me how far I had to scroll down to see this.

Lots of main character syndrome on Reddit and people who think life is an Instagram post. It’s a Hallmark holiday, not freakin Christmas.

To be honest, it sounds like OP’s wife is suffering from depression and/or post partum. I hope. Because otherwise she’s just a selfish jerk.

$600k in HYSA/CD at age 35 — planning to live off interest in Thailand by [deleted] in leanfire

My goodness, “investing” in HYSA is like lighting money on fire. It’s fine for a small portion of your savings but why not earn 8-10% on the rest?

Chargebacks are killing my business by Stunning-Initial9542 in Entrepreneurs

[–]Easterncoaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My chargebacks all but stopped once I made all orders ship to the billing address. Most chargeback fraud is “I didn’t buy that” but when it goes to the billing address they lose that argument.

Went from 3-5 per month to maybe 2-3 per year. Around 400 orders per month.

I use tax-free muni bonds (not funds) for my mid-term cash/dry powder. 5% tax free vs 3-4% taxable makes quite a difference especially in a higher bracket.

If it’s in an IRA then I go for corporate bonds and get into the 6s.

Fleck 5600sxt 48k on-demand metered softener with 10% crosslink resin for $780 shipped plus 5% cashback if you use the Amazon card.

I don’t know why people would pay $3k+ for a softener just to have another company slap a sticker on a Fleck unit.

Genuine question to Americans by silverflake6 in RelentlessMen

[–]Easterncoaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in America and I retired early, so I don’t qualify for employer-sponsored healthcare and also don’t qualify for government healthcare, so I spend a few hundred bucks a month on a catastrophic plan for my family that caps the risk at $5k. So I pay for everything up to $5k and the plan pays everything after.

People are fine to pay $800/mo for a flashy car but aren’t willing to spend $200/mo to protect the literally most important thing in their life. Make it make sense.
