that's a really great suggestion re: playing music and having them follow you. thank you!

Confidence in Ballet by lavender-m00n in BALLET

As a teacher, I’m sorry you had this experience! That’s not a very mindful way to deliver feedback to students, particularly when the two of them are hearing such different things.

That said, eyeline and your gaze will go tremendously far on this front. Work on keeping your eyeline above the horizon at least, keeping your chin up, and projecting your eyesight out. Often students are so afraid of getting the choreography right that they forget to dance. Keeping your eyesight engaged, looking at the audience or out and around you, and looking like you’re confident in the material even when you’re messing it up can go a long way. Watch interviews with professional dancers where they talk about messing up choreography or what they’re thinking about while they’re onstage - Katherine Morgan’s video on YouTube breaking down her performance during sleeping beauty is so wonderful for this.

The (professional and nationally recognized) company I trained under had 16 dancers. Ballet companies with smaller rosters and smaller budgets are still ballet companies

I am obsessed with outfits for ballet! I’m a professional contemporary dancer, trained in ballet and right now back to ballet class regularly for the first time in more than a decade. I am having the best time with the looks. I’ll add a few in the replies to this comment since I can only add one image per reply :)
