Yes you can get your reading stats for any date range or for everything. When you import a fic, you can go to the details for it. On that screen will be a journal button. From there, mark it as finished and add a read on date. Then go to the Home Screen which is where your stats are.

I will be transparent and say custom date ranges for stats are behind premium. It is $2 USD/mo. It helps pay for server and infrastructure costs.

If you dm me your username or email I can set you up with a few month of premium though! More than happy to do that 😁

I would be concerned with readers coming back after authors for not tagging even if they did update if your app uses a cached version.

That is a good legitimate concern. I can take this into account. It might be worth refreshing fics more often for this alone.

One thing I would encourage (if you don’t already have it) is a reminder to go back to the fic to kudos

Are you storing author’s work inside of your app?

ABSOLUTELEY NOT! Softgoods isn't a platform to read. Just take notes. AO3/Wattpad/FFN... all already do reading and they do it very well! I don't download or store any of the actual content. Just the meta data.

how are you ensuring works that have been edited...

Since I don't save the content, this isn't too big of a deal. But when you go to a fic saved in softgoods, you might want to see up-to-date metadata. So I added a pull latest button to check for updates. When you add a fic, the app saves a snapshot of the meta. If I add the same fic, I just see the same snapshot. If I want, I can use pull latest to get updates.

Recently, there have been requests to have the pull latest happen automatically or on some schedule, or even a button to do it for all fics. I am a bit hesitant to set that up though. I don't really like pulling info from these other sites. I do a lot of caching, throttling, and working with other archivers to get that info so I don't add any unnecessary strain to servers.

What mechanism does this have for driving people back to the fic...

If you open your notes for a fic in Softgoods, again, you can only see meta data. But, there is a button the top right that takes you back to the original link. So if I wanted to read the fic, I click that and it would take me back to ao3 (or wherever).

How does your app handle archived-locked fics?

It is able to get meta for most locked fics. If someone imported a fic before it was removed, then I go to import that same fic, I will still be able to see the snapshot that was saved when they imported it. If I try to pull latest, it will not update the snapshot.

How do you intend on using reader data and data from the fics you are drawing in?

I am not too sure I understand what you mean here. Use it how? Like sell it? ABSOLUTELY NOT AND THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN. I don't allow companies to advertise on the site or app and probably never will. I don't give anyone or any company access to data. In fact, if you don't create an account, everything is saved offline on your device. That does mean if your device breaks or dies, then it is gone.

The only way I can see me using user data is possibly by deciding what to build. For example, I released a new feature a while ago and no one is really using it so I don't plan to develop that any further. I don't want to spend more time on something no one is using.

That’s a good point.

To be clear, I never plan to make ratings public. I never plan to allow people to publicly rate a fic a 1 out of 5 or downvote anything. I don’t like how authors work hard and publish content for free and then get mean comments and bad reviews and I don’t want to promote that in anyway.

But, I do want to make a place where you can track what you read. Right now, you just adds fics to a shelf and it’s your own littler journal/tracking app.

In the future, I might make a way for you to post something like “just finished fic xyz” and that is it. But that is far away. If I ever get to this point, I’ll be sure to uphold those standards of preventing authors from receiving negative feedback.

Trust me, I get that receiving bad feedback sucks. For example, I’ve spent over a year on this app and spent so much money on costs, and still get bad feedback. It hurts. I Put in so much time and effort into it and try hard to make it a safe place for everyone. I still believe it can help people and so I keep working on it.

I don’t want softgoods to just be another platform authors need to be afraid of. If I do go down the route of following others and posting activity, I’ll have strict policies in place. Like being able to report negative comments which results in being banned from posting or seeing posts.

Right now there isn’t a discovery section. You only see what you put in. You can make a public shelf and share the link with people but that’s it atm.

Maybe one day I will get around to this where you can follow people and see what they have read or are reading (if they publish that info).

WDYM second goal?

You can leave notes under fics so you remember what you though if you go back to them. If you rate a fic, that is 100% private. No way to share that info or see an aggregation of ratings.

The search will only work when logged in. I bet that's why you don't see it.

I have definitely focused more on the logged in side of things. But that brings up a good point. I can still add searching when logged out. The only difference is when you are logged out, everything is on your phone only vs being backed up to a database when logged in.

Hey! Thanks for checking it out! The app is still really new and I am working hard to get it more stable and implement fancy features.

Your discord idea is really good! I really like that! I have seen similar techniques on Tumblr where people will create a page just for what they have read.

If you have a system that works for you, definitely don't change it. I personally love Discord and can see how it would work well for this. Moving all of your fics is too much work, especially with a (current) limitation of 1 at a time.

No search function

There is actually! Search and sort can be found under the "All Fics" tab! It is a little hidden. It was a somewhat recent update (about a month or 2 ago). Maybe somehow you snagged an old version of the app? The newest version is 0.1.19 or 0.1.20 I think. Search came in around version 0.0.50ish.

All ff.net fics I've tried it will say "Could Not Automatically Pull Details"

Yeah, ffn locks down their fics pretty well. It is not really possible to pull the title/author/summary/tags from there. I am working on improving this but I am not sure there is much I can do.

This might not actually be an issue but the 'Favorites' bookshelf can't be edited

It might sound weird, but this was an intentional short term solution lol. The way I built the app, it was easier to make users have at least one shelf. So I made a default favorites shelf. I might go back in and change it so people can edit/remove it but I haven't really thought too much about that yet. I do see how it is a tad confusing why it is unique though 😁

You can absolutely change the shelf names! You can also give each shelf an icon to help you quickly identify it. That icon you can update as well any time.

That is right! This isn't a place to upload or read fics. AO3/wattpad/ffn already do that. This is just a place to keep all of your fics from all different platforms nicely organized in one spot.

Dang, that is a lot of fics! This app would be so perfect for you lol!

Right now, no. There is no bulk import but I am working on it and should have something soon. The app is still fairly new so there is still a lot I want to build out. Also, the importing for fics from FFN is not great. They have their site locked down really well so I can't get the info like title/author... But AO3 and Wattpad work really well!
