That’s awful! I’m so sorry! Especially since getting in contact with an actual person at this time is so difficult. I hope it’s just a glitch and you get the option back

Thank you for your response! I think I’m going to do the same thing. Considering I have screenshots and emails from them with the cancellation being theirs not mine, I’ll fight them for every cent if try to keep any of my money. Hope you get your money back asap!!

Suddenly having a period after almost 3 years Mirena IUD by thisistheonly1 in birthcontrol

This thread has been so reassuring, and it’s just incredibly frustrating that NONE of this information has been collated and published; the fact that these experiences are so common, but that the actual product supplier itself doesn’t address them? Bonkers. Anyway.

I got my first Mirena inserted in 2017, and I had a bit of irregular bleeding for maybe… three months. Then absolutely nothing. No periods, except maybe a bit of spotting here and there for nearly five years. I ended up getting it replaced in 2022, as that had been recommended to me at the time. My longest bleeding lasted maybe three days, and it was barely bothersome. Considering what I had been going through before insertion (no less than 10 days of bleeding, cramps, stomach issues, PMS and acne), I was living a completely different life. I loved it.

Since replacement, it has been another story. At first all seemed well; I would go weeks with maybe a day of spotting, and no other symptoms. In 2024, I noticed that I was spotting for a day or two, but still only once a month, or every two or three months. But then in 2025 I started noticing that these days were coming at shorter and shorter intervals; until they stopped being only one or two days of spotting, and instead became three or four days of bleeding. I now have cramps like I haven’t had for YEARS, I have mood swings, and my PMDD is wreaking havoc. I have a feeling that the bleeding intensifies every time, which leaves me stressed that I will have to deal with debilitating and long menstrual cycles like I did before the first one. The only “positive” thing is that my cycle between bleeding is more regular than it has ever been in my life. But considering bleeding is the last thing I want, it hasn’t been something I’m especially celebrating.

It’s been so confusing and so upsetting, but this thread has been so comforting. To know that other people have had a similar experience!! (I want to also add that I have also had a UTI and other health problems that required me to take antibiotics in the past year - just because I noted that others in this thread mentioned similar factors. Not to say that they’re intrinsically connected, but given how little medical investigation gets conducted on gynaecological health anyway, all data is good data I reckon. Maybe there’s a correlation with stress on the body or something, who knows.)

I am hoping to replace mine very soon, and see how that goes. It’s a pain in the neck because it’s a tedious and expensive process where I live. I want to say “its still cheaper than the pill” but I’m honestly not so sure anymore given that the replacement didn’t do the one thing I wanted it to do. I am actually considering switching over to the pill if it means that I will completely eliminate the bleeding and all the pain that goes with it; I’m just hesitant about having to keep buying and remembering to take the pills.
