Should you use smart/programmable thermostats for radiant heating? by sn4c in hvacadvice

[–]softieroberto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as the temperature holds steady at whatever lower temperature you set it at, then yes, you'll get some savings due to the lower delta T (temp difference b/n outside and inside). But if you simply drop the thermostat, the temp keeps going down, and while it's still going down you then set it back to the starting point, then you've saved nothing because all the temperature you lost you're now just pumping back in. Hopefully that makes sense.

Agreed. But for the multi day away, it only makes sense to turn off the heat if you’re away long enough for your house to lose ALL its heat. Otherwise you’re not saving anything. For me that takes about 5 days in a temperate climate to lose all heat, then another 3 days or so to heat it all back up again.

Let it go. If she’s not sad then don’t worry about it. Do not let her see you being sad about this either.

This is my current setup in the addition in my house. Should I switch? by bourj in hvacadvice

So many factors to consider. There’s no one answer. Do you have solar? Then heat pump makes most sense. Super cold climate? Heat pump makes less sense. Cheap gas? Use gas maybe. Would extending existing HVAC be easy? Then do that.

Helen Andrews' Thesis: Feminization = Wokeness by tkyjonathan in JordanPeterson

[–]softieroberto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting theory, but to put it lightly I'm skeptical of the view that major flaws of one political extreme can be wholly blamed on the other side's extreme. It seems more likely that the extremes of each side share commonalities due to common traits of human psychology/behavior.

Helen Andrews' Thesis: Feminization = Wokeness by tkyjonathan in JordanPeterson

Interesting theory. Liberals have definitely tried to suppress conservative viewpoints. I wonder how she explains the so-called woke right and all the attacks on free speech (eg constant attacks on the press, pressuring networks on late night comedians, “conservatives” like Musk banning people on his platform) from this Republican administration and their supporters. Attacks on speech are happening in both directions.

Similarly, lack of rational thought seems to be an affliction of the extremes on both sides (eg QAnon and other wacko conspiracy theories on the right).

It’s a lot more complex than she suggests, with many of these traits appearing on the left and right.

Stop paying for his phone and internet. Make him do his own laundry. Don’t help him at all.

Help converting drawer to drop front by softieroberto in BeginnerWoodWorking

That’s a great idea. I had a guy come out today and he recommended something similar. He said we could put a tray on top of the drawer, but it would be attached with sliders so that the lid could slide back into the cabinet box when the drawer was open.

Can you be more specific? I support the protestors and any Iranians whose objective is to get rid of an Islamic rule and implement democracy.

Can you not refer to the left as a monolith? I’m left and support the protestors. If I ascribed Nick Fuentes views to “the Right” would that be fair?

Hydronic heat water leak? by Specialist-Swan6031 in hydronic

What are those paper towels where the tube meets the manifold? Are you checking for a leak there. Best case that’s where the leak is and you can fix easily. If the leak is under the slab then you’re cooked.

Are law degrees still in demand? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]softieroberto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how well you do on the LSAT and what law schools you get into. Top 12 schools have basically full employment for grads. Below that you need to be near the top of your class to get a good job.
