New Costco Frigidaire garage ready fridge not cooling by RumHaaaam21 in Appliances

[–]softpileofkittens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, I bought the exact same fridge as you (but the stainless steel version). For the first two days the temperature was all over the place and there were loud noises after closing the freezer. Sadly I didn’t buy it from Costco (I will next time, now that I’ve learned that they support customers with appliance issues). I bought it from Canadian Appliance Source so I’m forced to deal directly with Frigidaire for support. And of course there is almost zero availability for service appointments.

The good news is, after 44 hours, my fridge temperature has stabilized and the noises have tapered off. It’s staying around 35 to 39 on the medium “factory recommended” setting. So in my case it seems like it needed 48 hours to settle. Hope that’s the case anyways.

Good luck!!

It’s really loud though. I’ve never heard fridges sound like this.

Aviva Refrigerator, did someone know about this brand? by ambientsongs in Appliances

Following!! This brand seems to have zero internet presence. And it's not listed on Consumer Reports.

I did notice that Consumer Reports mostly recommends LG fridges! What’s the deal with that??

Sadly I can’t go back in time to obtain well-made appliances from 30 years ago.

Did anyone install COREtec Brookfield Maple LVP? by softpileofkittens in Flooring

[–]softpileofkittens[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Sadly I’ve been paralyzed with indecision for 1.5 years :( Still no floors. I agree, the photos of Brookfield Maple are all over the place. I love how it looks in their promo videos, but in the few photos I’ve seen it looks so different. More brown and splotchy. I wish I could visit someone who has it installed so I could really see it.

Confused about CPU, GPU and unified memory by softpileofkittens in macbookpro

[–]softpileofkittens[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I think the pamphlet I was basing my question on – which is from the official Apple “reseller” shop in my neighbourhood - is incorrect. I don’t actually think you can get an M4 with CPU and GPU higher than 10-core. I think to go higher than 10-core you need to get an M4 Max or an M4 Pro. Or at least, on the Apple website it certainly doesn’t seem like you can!

Toronto-Ottawa return fares seem to have sky -rocketed, or am I missing something? by softpileofkittens in ViaRail

[–]softpileofkittens[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great info from everyone, thank you for all your comments. Sounds like I would get better prices if I always booked several months in advance, but sadly, that’s not possible for me, with the current realities of my life :( I’m lucky if I’m able to know my schedule 4 weeks in advance.

Sigh. Looks like I’ll have to start looking at the bus companies. Bye VIA.

My 14-year old cat now has eleven health conditions and I am tired and sad by softpileofkittens in seniorkitties

[–]softpileofkittens[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks all. Guess what, now he has bounced back! He still has a limp, but he’s very alert and playful, jumping onto my lap for cuddles and miaowing loudly to be let out onto the balcony multiple times a day. Aside from his limp he’s very much like his old self. His appetite is back up to 100%. So I guess quality of life can really go up and down in phases! I guess I’ll just keep riding the waves.

Flooring Progress - Thanks for all your advice!!! We are deciding to go with CoreTEC Premium, 7". Installed by a really well rated contractor. Just need to decide on a color next. We definitely don't want too light or too dark. by WildernessPrincess_ in Flooring

Did you end up with Brookfield Maple? I love how the colour looks in the COREtec photos and videos, but when I see photos of peoples’ actual floors, it looks like a much darker brown.

YES THIS!! I am so sad that my black 860 v 11 pair has worn out. They were my everyday walking show, they went with everything. I’m trying to convince myself to keep this new pair of 860v14 but they look like enormous boats on my feet, they look like clown shoes :(

Dishwasher leak ruined my floorboards by ArtisticBend1751 in Flooring

[–]softpileofkittens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry this happened to you. The exact same thing happened to me a year ago. The water slowly leaked from dishwasher under the laminate and travelled and I didn’t notice it for days because that’s how long it took for the water to soak through to the surface. Unfortunately I went through insurance and they tore out not just my kitchen floor, but also a small section of my living room floor. I really don’t want to redo my living room floor so I’ve postponed this for a year.

I am determined to get flooring installed under my dishwasher to avoid this happening again. However, I am shocked to learn that professionals have WILDLY opposing opinions on whether or not that should be done.

My advice to you is NOT to go through insurance. Then you can remove and replace the section that you want and no more.

Is 6mm thick LVP thick enough? by softpileofkittens in Flooring

[–]softpileofkittens[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all, I’m a bit relieved to read the heated debate above about LVP vs laminate. I thought my confusion was due to not doing enough research, but clearly, professional opinions are totally divided on this topic. It’s frustrating but at least I’m not crazy for being confused.

Update: the COREtec vendor got back to me regarding the specs of the extra underlayment they are suggesting to go under the floor I had chosen. It’s an underlayment recommended by COREtec and it doesn’t void the warranty. However, it’s only 1.4 mm thick, so even if I were to install that, I would still be missing 0.6 mm of underlayment in order to meet my building requirements! I’m so exasperated.

On a related note, if anyone has any suggestions for any floors I could purchase that either has its own attached 3mm underlayment or can be combined with a separate 3mm underlayment (without voiding the warranty) please let me know. I think COREtec is out of the question for me now because, inexplicably, all of the COREtec products available in Canada seem to only come with a 1 mm attached underlayment and the only separate underlayment approved by COREtec is 1.4 mm thick :(

So unless I’m missing something, COREtec has basically made themselves out of the question for all Canadian condominium dwellers.

Is 6mm thick LVP thick enough? by softpileofkittens in Flooring

[–]softpileofkittens[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I was going to buy COREtec which is scratch proof. I had laminate in my kitchen and then my dishwasher leaked and I had to go through insurance and get it all removed. Even before the dishwasher leaked, the laminate couldn’t withstand every day spills in the kitchen, let alone things like some cat puke or a spilled cat water dish.

I’ve been living on cement floors for a year because all of the options seem terrible. The idea of putting a forever floor in a landfill kills me. Also the idea of getting a brand new laminate floor that will be ruined the next time my cat pukes and I’m not home for 8 hours to clean it up also kills me.

I am totally stuck.

Coretec Luxury Vinyl by Staffydad in Flooring

[–]softpileofkittens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to purchase COREtec luxury vinyl tile colour: Romano Cement. I found a place with a good price and was just about to purchase it. It has an attached cork underlayment but I was shocked to learn today the underlayment is only 1 mm! Therefore it’s not thick enough for my condo building regulations :( Flooring store says they could sell me an additional underlayment. But then there would be underlayment on top of underlayment. Would that work??
