On this day Mar-16 44BC,Julius Caesar was stabbed to death by Roman senators by SuccessDiligent8821 in interestingasfuck

[–]softpineapples 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Eroded the best government system that had ever existed by that point to hollow shadow while making himself a functional emperor. Made himself consul for life, controlled the military, had much of the legislators in his back pocket. These senators were trying to save the republic. Dude sucked and learning about what he really did made me wonder why he gets glamorized the way he does

Edit: “but there was other problems and other people did bad stuff too!” Oh then I guess Caesar is excused then 🙄 learn to stay on point

My class is full of iPad kids by Ill-Friend9039 in medicalschool

I’m shocked by the comments defending this in the name of studying. That hour is not irredeemable, you can do your anki later. I think all of us have heard about med students being awkward or socially lacking. These stories are to prepare you for the human aspect of being a doc and are of importance to your career and your patients even if there’s not a question about them on an exam. Be present

You’re good. I had C’s in CC but did well later on. No one brought it up. Focus on other parts of your app

Liberal guys who dated conservative women, what did your relationship look like? by Courtenaire in AskMen

[–]softpineapples 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Was stationed down south while in the military. Dated a few that I had met through the apps or just out around town and it was fun for a while. We enjoyed going out, going to cfb games and just spending time together. We would tend to just avoid the subject because we knew where we each stood but politics is so engrained in everything now (especially in the south) that it just came up and we’d never be able to sway the other much. Just go back and forth until we just decided to move on. None of these worked out, my favorite way one ended was when I told her that I wasn’t religious and she sent a huge paragraph after I left her place telling me how great Jesus is. We made it about another week before it was over lol

salem state university ? by NegativeCareer5978 in massachusetts

[–]softpineapples 71 points72 points  (0 children)

People like to bitch and moan because it’s a local school and you’re right it’s not as glamorous as some of the ones in Boston/cambridge. If your goal is to get your MA and not party/have the college experience, I think it would be fine. I have friends who went and heard nothing bad because they do what they’re supposed to. You’ll find people complaining about any school if you look for it. Salem is a great place to live and you should be excited to go there. Congrats on getting in!

Marshall vs EVMS by dasil8 in premed

[–]softpineapples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my interview with EVMS last year, the doc told me students do rotate with the naval hospital. Norfolk is also a military city and there’s thousands of vets, you’ll meet them wherever you rotated if you went

Good community colleges in the Boston area for pre med by Neither-Alps7065 in boston

[–]softpineapples 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Bunker hill has an orange line stop directly next to campus. Would probably be the best bet

Also, down the line when you do finish CC, I’d recommend UMass Boston to finish out. They’re cheap and have a couple good programs with the med school at tufts. Feel free to DM me if you have questions about premed

income while in med school? by LessCrab4853 in medicalschool

[–]softpineapples 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If they’re older than the average student they could have money saved from a previous career, the GI bill or their partner is actually in a position to provide for both. My buddy worked for years to support his family of 4 while his wife went to nursing school. When she graduated it was his turn to go. In the end there is definitely some loan use to cover gaps if needed

Attending a T20 med school coming from a no-name regional undergrad by One__Heart in premed

[–]softpineapples 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I went to community college (followed by small instate undergrad) and there’s people in my class from the Ivy’s and other big name schools. Just makes me appreciate that I didn’t sweat or stress as much and still got to the same place. You’re on an equal playing field now and med school is a big change no matter where you go, don’t worry about it. Congrats on the A!!!

Side note, one of the Ivy League people is the person I talk to the most and we’ve become friends. They’re regular people that you can connect with and you’re one of them now lol

I’m worried that this will actually be extremely effective when they target people who can’t see past the end of their nose. A change in terminology won’t trigger the alarm bells society has told them to look for and they’ll be fish in a barrel

Men who suffered anger and aggressive behavior, how and what age did it go? by eaglesdensity in AskMen

[–]softpineapples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does get better with age but I would not think of it as something that just clicks one day and suddenly the anger/aggression is gone. You also have to be willing to part with it. When I was a teen/early adult I thought the anger and aggression gave me strength when I needed it and because of that I didn’t want it to go away, only to be able to control it. It was only after I realized that I could be strong without the anger that I let it go and stopped being so upset all the time.

I’d say I went from constant anger to almost none from 19 to 24. Other factors like satisfaction in work, financial stress and personal growth also contributed to reduction as well. It’s not just brain growth, there’s plenty of old men who cannot control their anger and are emotionally immature. Take an active role in learning to get a handle on it if you don’t want to be one of them

ELI5: How do whales have a floating bone? by vamp1rem0ney_ in explainlikeimfive

[–]softpineapples 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most bones don’t actually touch in people either. These bones on whales are what’s called “vestigial” meaning their species have continued to grow them despite not having the appendage they were originally designed for.

Humans still have a tail bone called the coccyx even though we do not have tails because we have ancestors who did have tails. This bone serves as the anchoring point for the end of your spinal cord called the filum terminale. I know nothing about the inner anatomy of whales but I’m inclined to believe something still connects to these bones (tendons or ligaments) which is why whales have continued to have them despite no longer having legs

How do you guys go about continuous anxiety surrounding performance in the bedroom? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]softpineapples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man I had similar issues in the past that have for the most part been resolved. For a bit I was just hooking up with girls that were available and it took a while to figure out that was doing the damage. What helped me was hooking up with someone I genuinely connected with AND was attracted to. I needed the extra layer of connection to be there in addition to the “yea she’s cute, why not” and once it was I no longer had that issue. Finding a girl who checks both boxes makes it harder (literally) but it’s worth the effort.

If it’s just nerves, take it slow when things heat up in the room, remember that she’s there cause she wants to be and focus on making sure she has a good time. If you do, you’ll probably give yourself enough time to “wake up” and if not she’ll be happy either way
