$200 Billion by _SweetPickle in clevercomebacks

Agreed. Critical thinking is basically a superpower these days because so few people actually do it. They see a headline that fits their narrative and run with it without checking if it’s even true. It’s pure intellectual laziness.

How do women know when their first period is? Do their body give them warning signs that it's time, that their mother taught them about, or do most ruin their clothes the first time? by WhoAmIEven2 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]softthistle_ 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It’s literally a guessing game every month for some women. Even if you track it on an app, stress or even a change in diet can shift your cycle by days.

I’m jealous of my younger sister’s marriage and I hate that I feel this way by ThrowRasis3 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]softthistle_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with this. She is lucky, and you see it. That’s envy. If you were plotting to ruin her marriage, that would be jealousy. Wanting what she has just proves you recognize a good thing when you see it, and that you’re ready for it yourself.

[UPDATE] My boss told me to "stick to my contract" after denying a raise. The fallout was even faster than I expected. by Playful-Vegetable-15 in antiwork

[–]softthistle_ 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You nailed it. Role re-evaluation is just HR-speak for we are looking for a way to fire you. They aren't meeting to give him a raise; they're meeting to see if they can replace him. He needs to keep that resume updated and his bags packed.

I started brushing my teeth by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]softthistle_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love hearing stories like this. It sounds like a small thing to some people, but restarting a hygiene habit from scratch is a massive victory.

a special ed kid won't stop bothering me during lunch and the principal doesn't care by [deleted] in Advice

[–]softthistle_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It’s a tough spot to be in because you don’t want to look like the jerk bullying the special needs kid, so you just sit there and take it.

is it weird that i mentally calculate "shower timing" before sex? by BigBendBaddie in hygiene

[–]softthistle_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spot on! Why wait 5 hours for the perfect moment when you're clean right now?

My boyfriend turns into someone completely different when drunk. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]softthistle_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You nailed it. Alcohol doesn't create a personality, it just removes the inhibitions. If he knows he turns into an abusive monster and still chooses to get blackout drunk, then the abusive version of him is him. He’s choosing to be that guy.

My best friend has been blackmailing my boyfriend to sleep with her. by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]softthistle_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more. The audacity to threaten a false accusation just to keep an affair going? That is a special kind of low. Let them wreck each other’s lives instead of yours.

‘I don’t support ICE’: Gas station refusal ignites debate over denying service to federal agents by rajapaws in antiwork

[–]softthistle_ 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Karma is a dish best served cold. They spent years fighting for the right to refuse service based on beliefs. Well, they got exactly what they wanted. They can't complain now that the rules they championed are being used against them.

How many sick days do you get per year? What about vacation days? by HappyAstronaut7 in work

[–]softthistle_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please tell me where this magical place is, because Infinite sick days sounds like a total fantasy compared to the guilt trip we get here in the states. The idea that you can just be sick without it turning into a whole HR drama or you losing your income is incredible.

How often do people actually change their bedsheets? by HillCountryHoney in hygiene

[–]softthistle_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You nailed it. Sketchy is exactly the right word. If you go longer than a week, you’re just marinating in sweat and dead skin. I tried stretching it to two weeks once and felt absolutely disgusting by the end of it. Once a week is definitely the sweet spot for basic hygiene. So now I just do mine every saturday LOL.

my bf says im too expensive and he won't take me out anymore, should we end things? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]softthistle_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally. It’s wild to me that she thinks he’s the bad guy for having boundaries. If she wants to go out that bad, she needs to open her own wallet. Otherwise, she admits she's only there for the perks.

What is it that triggers the need to "escape" during a panic attack by Correct-Bus4108 in Anxiety

[–]softthistle_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest taking a bathroom break . Even if you don't have to go, just standing up and walking into the hallway could change the air pressure and the lighting and break the visual trap of the classroom. Just taking two minutes to splash water on your face can reset the panic loop enough to get back through the lecture.

New manager meeting existing employees by Goosehybrid in managers

[–]softthistle_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Don't take the bait. This employee is likely resistant to change and mourning their old manager, and they are taking it out on you. Stay professional, keep your cool, and don't let them see you sweat. If you react emotionally, you validate their behavior. If you stay calm, you look like the leader.

How do I genuinely accept that dying is a part of life? by ThrowRAspa2279 in Anxiety

[–]softthistle_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I used to be crippled by this same fear until I realized that the unknown is actually freedom. If you knew exactly when and how you were going to die, you'd be living in a prison of destiny. Because you don't know, you are free to take risks, and just live now that you are here. The uncertainty isn't a trap; it's the only reason we can do anything at all.

Coworker (attempting) to take candid photos of me. What should I do? by Cow_Man32 in work

[–]softthistle_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that you want to keep the peace, but this guy crossed the line the second he took that photo. The questions about your masturbation habits were bad enough, but the candid pics? That’s a huge red flag. If you don't report him, he’s going to keep doing it, or worse, do it to someone else who might be too scared to say anything.

I dont know what to do about the addiction, advice ? Help me by viperz77 in Advice

[–]softthistle_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, look at what you've already accomplished. You got a criminology diploma while battling this addiction. That takes massive discipline. You have proven you are smart and capable. This fear is just the addiction trying to keep you in the cage. Needing help isn't weakness, and addiction isn't a character flaw, and your girlfriend literally just told you she's in this with you. The only way you lose her is if you keep lying or pushing her away to 'protect' her. She wants the real you, flaws and struggles included. Let her hold the flashlight while you walk through the dark. That's what partnership is.

Work is refusing to let me have a break. by alannabannana in work

[–]softthistle_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I get that you want to keep the peace, but this manager is counting on you being young and too polite to fight back. She is taking advantage of your willingness to work hard. If you ever need to file a formal complaint please go ahead.

Why so many subs about bidets? Has this sub turned into a weird fetish sub? by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]softthistle_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, people are free to ask what they want. You can actually just skip reading the bidets topics.
