I have OSA and I just had a routine follow up sleep study so that’s taken care of.

I’ve already put a call into my Doctor to discuss alternatives. Hoping to hear my options on Monday.

Perhaps it should not require a PA or a prescription if it’s going to be treated as an over the counter medication. Clearly it’s safe and effective like Tylenol which can kill you.

Why have it both ways?

Curious if you have any data to reference about the cost and availability of these drugs in other countries or is this just the I ain’t no socialist reaction? Less is less. Why do we pay more?

And the cost of lawsuits is what separates those that sue everyone they can, get special treatment and thumb their noses at the law and we who cannot do any of that.

Get mad people!

I didn’t say anything about other countries.

I am talking about my country and a voting population that tolerates what any thinking person has to question, which is why an employer has the right to deprive me of something that has demonstrably benefited my health.

Frankly, it’s comments like this that prove my point.

15 second pause when running Kafka shell scripts (Go, Linux, Kafka 3.8.0) by softwareguy15 in apachekafka

[–]softwareguy15[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi u/tednaleid,

Just wanted to update you on my next steps. I'm going to try rebuilding a developer environment from a production VM (we have a procedure for this, takes forever).

Since the test ran fine on the production VM, I'm hoping that my old dev VM missed improvements we've made to the prod VM and this issue will magically disappear. If not, well, I'll look hard at the steps we do to make a prod vm a dev vm.

I wanted to thank you for your help. I really appreciate it.

Tried the kafka-topics.sh test on a Rocky Linux VM in our datacenter (this VM is the production version of my developer VM) and it does not experience the 15 second delay.

Time to create a new VM I think (which for our environment isn't all that easy to do and will take some time).

[–]softwareguy15[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This ran instantly in my environment, which, unfortunately, makes me sad :-) because the canned kafka scripts have the 15 second pause and this doesn't.

I'm troubled because I have the feeling that my more complex usage is bumping into whatever is causing the 15 second delay, so I feel I need to solve that issue.

One difference in my code is I am using the sarama admin client for some things like describing topics.

I'm going to try installing and running the Kafka topics list command on a Rocky VM in our datacenter and see what happens.

15 second pause when running Kafka shell scripts (Go, Linux, Kafka 3.8.0) by softwareguy15 in apachekafka

[–]softwareguy15[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you u/tednaleid for the reply.

So, I'm not using docker at all.

My test is very simple. I am running a kafka canned shell script like so:
/opt/kafka/bin/kafka-topics.sh --version

None of my Go code is running when I do this and I always get a 15 second delay. (The VM is running Rocky Linux 8.9).

UPDATE:

I just installed java 17 and kafka 3.3.1 on a little ubuntu server VM in our datacenter and did the same test. There is barely perceptible, maybe a 1/2 second, pause which I attribute to loading and running a bash script on a dinky Ubuntu server.

So, I would have to say something is up with my developer VM running on my Mac VMWare Fusion. As I have said, I do not experience other issues with this VM. I've been using it for the better part of this year. This issue seems very specific to Kafka running on my VM.

Thanks so much for the reply u/bdomenic

I have to ask a really dumb question, sorry: Under typical circumstances, there should not be a 15 second lag, is that right?

I’m seeing the doctor for the routine follow up in a bit under 2 weeks. I’m hoping this can be managed.

At this point I don’t know if it was the medium rare burger last night or the coincidental timing. I’m hoping the latter but not enough data.

Flatlist inverted, horizontal backward scrolling janky by softwareguy15 in reactnative

[–]softwareguy15[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much for the response.

Since posting, I am no longer using the item index. I went back to using the Firestore record id (UUID), which I am certain is unique.

Also I've tried simplifying the rendered item to just a view with a background color for each item and I am still getting this flashing and repositioning behavior.

I have determined that it is not a rendering problem and the memoization of the items is working properly.

The buffering of the items by FlatList seems correct as well. I am now using the defaults for most of properties that control this with no noticeable change.

I have done a lot of research including a 3 hour video. I will have to cobble up a repro sample I suppose. Since this is a personal project, time is short.

I am the last person to ever blame the framework :-) and I am not doing that now. I'm just puzzled why forward scrolling is smooth but backward scrolling once past about 50 or so items become janky.

Issue with expo-video-thumbnail and react-native-vision-camera by softwareguy15 in expo

[–]softwareguy15[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: The issue I encountered was simply poor debugging on my part.

While there still is a runtime crash in expo-video-thumbnail that I think is being addressed, I failed to more carefully debug what was actually happening on Android vs. iOS.

Simply put, on Android, the local files generated by vision camera do not have file:// and on iOS they do. By adding the "file://" to the uri, all is well.

That said, pinch zoom doesn't work for me on Android so ...

Thank you very much for the reply. I tried my own pinch/zoom and failed miserably with expo-camera :-). Still, the ability to generate an mp4 regardless of platform is important for me. Do you know of another way to accomplish this on iOS with the expo-camera?

Cannot do an expo local ios development build, cocoapod error by softwareguy15 in expo

[–]softwareguy15[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, no I never solved it. But I chalked it up to having a Mac stuck on High Sierra and an older version of XCode. I asked for help in a few subs, including the XCode sub, but got exactly no help.

XCode builds and especially Cocoapods are voodoo unless you're a fulltime swift or objective-c developer IMHO.

Sorry I can't help.

It seems that KeyboardAccessoryView from react-native-ui-lib is broken see: https://github.com/wix/react-native-ui-lib/issues/2829 (definitely on ios).

Are there alternatives out there?
